I am replacing the Axle U-joints and so far everything is going pretty well. The dust shields and shims are pretty rusty and I think that is what caused the drivers side freeze on the knuckle. I pounded like a mad man and it wouldn't budge. Finally I pounded a large screwdriver between the disk and the knuckle like a wedge and it popped right off! Passenger side came right off.
Now to get to my question...
The splined collar for the CAD is now floating about the position it needs to be in to reinsert the passenger side axle (rolls back and forth about 1/2"). I can move it with a long dowel to a point where I think the axle lead-in will pick it up. Questions:
Can I just move it into position and reinsert the axle?
Is the collar likely to be out of the arm that engages it?
Is it necessary to access it thru the disconnect housing?
Any tips on reinserting the axle (other than be careful) will be appreciated.
