Pump Covers?

I installed the MagHytec differential cover on the front axle of my "late issue" '02 4x4, the one with the "vented" differential cover. It's been on about a week.

The dipstick itself is vented on this model, so the vent line is placed over the dip stick "handle. "

Tonight I noticed that the hose had popped off. Inspection of the hose revealed that the hose end had split. I cut it off and hose clamped the hose in place.

I'm sorta wondering if I shouldn't maybe buy a slightly larger ID hose and replace the original vent line.

I'm not sure though if the hose clamp will hold it in place. I'd like to think t should because it's not pressurized and the dip stick "handle" is knurled.

Anyone else with experience with this MagHytec install?

Thanks,

Tim

Yes, been all thru it.

Mine is also a late 02, put the cover on and instantly had a mess under the truck. Maghytec was good about offering a refund and I didn't do it.

If the dif is filled to or above the low level line it pumps it out and up thru the vent hose.

I stuffed some cotton into the hose and it slows the leak but it has reappeared.

I really want to get the cover off and creat a baffle. Then use the top port as a vent.

Thinking of a tube to get the line out of the oil slosh.

vent for 02

Well I am the one that came up with the dip stick vent idea. I had bought the cover for my 02 and discovered the problem, contacted the man at mag hy tec and told him what I had done. He sent me several dip sticks to moc up. You have to make sure that the holes on the dip stick inside face forward or sligtly to the drivers side. I filled mine with synthetic 75/ 140 and have had it in there for 1 1/2 yrs never a drop.

Another option is to drill and tap axle housing itself and add a vent tube,an angle drill makes your choice of where to drill much easier.

I had a mess 'cause the hose came off. I am hoping the hose clamp trick does the trick.

The hole in the dipstick faces forward when it's installed. I tested it before I installed it.

If this keeps up, maybe I will tap the pumpkin.

Thanks!

I decided tonight to scrap it. The hell with it. After 3 days of oil everywhere, I've had enough. For something that cost nearly $300, I expect better.

I'm returning it and going back to the stock differential cover.
