On a dana 70 rear end out of a 98. 5 truck should the drum come off after the wheel is taken off or does the axles have to be pulled out ?

The axles didn't have to be pulled on my '99. One drum was tight on the hub and required some persuasion to free it.

Lift both sides in the rear, block the front wheels, take off the rear wheels, put a lug nut on each side loosely, start up the truck and get the rear spinning and hit the brakes. The drums will pop loose.

Back the adjusters off before you go hosing around trying to get the drums off, you will be there a LOOOOOOOONNNNGGGG time and end up tearing something up if you don't... ... ... .....
