My passenger side hub has gone right as I was finishing a 3 month build. I just bought the 2-9/16 socket from NAPA that I have read so much about. From all the threads I have read today there is no mention or pictures of how to get the retainer clip off. I assume this has to go first before the nut can be removed. From looking at it I can't tell how it comes out.

Any help would be great, I can't find my factory service manual to save my life and am lost with out it.

JKuehl, I am looking at the service manual for my '95 2500. I've take my rear axles out before to R&R the oil seal.

What are you calling the retainer clip? I don't remember one, and I don't see one in the schematic for my '95. (Maybe the '95's and '97's are different?)

But according to my manual, after you remove the 8 flange bolts and pull the axle shaft, then you remove the "nut lock" and the "adjustment nut" The adjustment nut is the one that is 2-9/16. On mine the "nut lock" is just a little steel thingy that pushes in and locks the adjustment nut. So if yours is the same just pull the "nut lock" straight out. That's what I did anyway, as I remember. After I did it, I wished I'd gone to the dealer and got a set of new ones--cause I sort of beat one of mine up getting it out.

You're Right

Mine is the same as your's. I couldn't get the "nut lock" out so I put the socket on the nut and backed the 2 out together. From the center of the nut lock came a spiral of I think nylon, then the end broke off and the whole works came out. Now to get that darn seal out the back of the hub... that is proving to be quite a chore.

Thanks for the response rrausch, I appreciate your trouble in pulling out your book to help.

Glad to help! That is what is great about this site. Many times I have had something bothering me about my truck, and somebody logged on and helped me. So I'm just passing it along!
