Attention: TDR Forum Junkies I have spent last hour reviewing posts back to 2000 about D-80 issues.
I seem to see more Dana 80 carrier bearing failures on LSD trucks & sticks.
I just sold my 03 6-speed w/ LSD, and when pulling the 5'er, and turning from a stop, it made some odd sounds & feel. It must be really working the LSD, but of course, the 03 used the American Axle.
My question: I have to change the front pionion seal, and install the Mag Hytek cover.
How can I check for any play/wear/shim play that I should worry about?
The Driveshaft/yoke spins about 1/8" while E-brake is on, so that seems okay. I don't have any fluid leaks in brake drum areas. I yanked on the driveshaft near the carrier bearing bolted to frame, and it moves about 1/8" up & down.
Should I be worried? Truck has 140k, and I now plan to pull more, and wanted to do what I should while I am pulling cover & yoke.
