Okay on a Dana 80, or any axle, where could a leak that shows build up on the front drivers side of the axle and rear passenger side of the pumpkin be coming from? No puddles, Mag hytec cover dip stick reads normal??? Saw some greasy stuff on the front drivers side of my axle today at work, got under there wiped it on my finger and it smelt like gear oil??

LEAK

The oil could be coming from the transmission or engine. Wind will carry oil from a leak to the rear of the vehicle.

Check the transmisson oil line hose clamps to and from the oil cooler. The clamps are in a very difficult spot and it takes some manuerving to get a 1/4" end wrench on them. You should be able to see oil on the frame on the front left corner just underneath the wind shield washer resorvior, if you do have a leak.

The rear side of the pumpkin could be from those "casting holes". I don't know what they're called, about the size of a nickel, indented.

Most all of mine leaked. I ended up scraping them out, down to the metal best I could, then used brake cleaner, then black RTV. End of problem. :)

Some weeped more than others.

You know that maybe exactly what is happening, looks like they are on those casting hole things, hmm, have to check this out. Are they supposed to leak/weep? I'll check those fittings too up front as suggested. Thanks again for your help guys!
