Bought new Dana Spicer LS carrier. Most LS I've had apart are clutch disc clutch disc clutch disc etc. This one has several clutches together without a disc between them and a different pattern. Most contact would be clutch disc clutch disc clutch disc etc. Whys is this one different and can you change it so it is clutch disc clutch disc clutch disc etc. ?

use the search button... there was a thread a while back re. this

yes you can re-stack them and improve the pack performance and add a plate by doing so

Like said, you can change the clutch pack if you want but you have to remember that the D-80 was made for a lot heavier truck than a 3/4 or 1 ton pick-up. So they restacked the clutch pack that way so there would be some slippage in the packs going around corners. I would put it in and try it without the friction modifier before changing the packs. I think you will find that it chatters real bad the way it is set up now with out the modifier or synthetic oil.

Dana 80

My dana 70 blew up about a year ago and bought a parts truck 95 one ton cab&chassis for the motor and rear end. After some measuring though I found out it, it was a different width. Can I use it still. will wheel spacers work.

I'm fairly sure it will work--as long as the spring perches line up--I'd think you will need the wheel spacers--good luck--chris

Dana 80

CSutton or anyone else, do you know the width of the wheel spacers that I would need by any chance to match up with the dana 60 up front. It is a 2500 single wheel front, and a 95 drw out of a cab and chassis. Thanks (getting rid of the dana 70. ) :)

I don't remember what size spacer is needed--just measure your existing 70, then compare it to the dually and you should be able to figure it out--chris

I restacked my 80, plus added the extra clutch (removed a disk), and I ended up with a spool. After many types of friction modifier and synthetic oil, along with one very wasted set of rear tires (DRW), I put a Detroit in and haven't looked back. When I assembled the restacked diff, I painted index lines on the clutch's and plates... they never moved. Yep, it was tight.

Wish I had that problem. My Power-lok is so incredibly loose. I just changed out the diff oil in hopes of tightening it up. NO MODIFIER AT ALL was used. It's still loose as a goose.

Maybe there's a middle ground when restacking? I mean, instead of all the clutched on top of each other, and all the plates on top of each other, OR alternating plates that make it super-tight.

Justin
