Reading the most recent TDR magazine, it was stated that 3500's have a Dana 80 and 2500's with a stick have the hybrid Dana 80. I thought Dodge only used the hybrid vs. an actual Dana 80? Anyone know for sure which rear end comes with a 3500???

Hello Ron. Havent heard from you in a while. Your 3500 has a tried and true Dana 80. The 2500s have the hybrid which is the Dana 80 pumpkin with Dana 70 axles and brakes.

If the 3500 has a real Dana 80 and the 2500 has the hybrid, then why do they both have the same 7500 lb. weight limit, when the Ford F350 DRW, which also has a real Dana 80, is listed at either 8250 or 9750 depending on whether you're looking at the door sticker or the brochure?

Rob

But what does the door sticker say? It's the one that lists tire pressures, sizes, and front and rear axle ratings, and GVWR.

i don't have my truck here but it doesn't matter to me what the dot sticker says i want to know what dana rates it at. i can always get better tires and springs and brakes, as long as i don't go over dana ratings. i like the fact that i have a gvw of 8800lbs but a rear axle that's rated at 8k:D .

I agree about the ratings... plus I'm already set with better tires and I have the heavy springs and all (what with having a 3500).

My problem is that the sticker says 7500#, and with my camper loaded, I'm at 7400#. If I tow my trailer, I go about 600# higher than that. While I don't much care about GVWR (since I exceed it by over 1000# with the camper), I do care about the axle rating, since that's what DOT is most likely to care about, should I ever be questioned.

If the thing had a higher rear axle rating, I could trade up to the bigger camper that I want. Instead, I'm stuck where I am until I either get a bigger truck (which DC doesn't make yet) or swap in a beefier axle (like the Dana 135 idea I posted about a month or so ago).

Lemme know if you find out what it's really rated for, and if we really do have a real Dana 80, or just a hybrid. :)

dot could care less what your sticker says they go by your footprint on the ground. when i've crossed the scales loaded down they tell me my truck with the 265's is ok for 5k per axle and my tandem dooley trailer is ok for 20k. i asked them about my stickers and they said they have know idea how the mfg's come up with those ratings. so i only try to stay within the axle, and tire ratings. my tires are rated for over 3200.

i believe i have the hybrid since i have a 2500 but like i said the build sheet says 8k.

jim

Hey thanks, that's good to know! Cool then, I'm fine with my F-rated tires.

Gee, anybody want a mint-condition, 14-mo-old Lance 1030? ;)

BTW, I was checking out your photos and dyno runs... any idea what the power difference is between DD3's and your Bully Dog 5's? I can't afford anymore power on my current clutch (and have no desire for more), but I must admit I'm curious. Your Bully 5's + Comp5 sheet looks very nice! Oh, and was your Comp the regular one or did it have the Hot chip in it?

Rob

that run was a 1st gen comp it didn't have the defuel built into it. i now have a newer one. i had dd2's and the 5's gave me right 100hp increase over the 2's on 2 different dyno's. i've got some other things up my sleeve and i'm looking for 550 on #2.

are you going to pahrump on the 15th there's going to be a bunch of people there, i'm hoping to get 650 out of my little ol eth:eek:
