How hard is it to the the ring gear and LSD back into the housing of the D80? I want to pull my tracloc and restack it and I've heard that you need a case spreader to get it back in. anyone done this, or have pics of the tool? Thanks

It all depends on how tight the side bearing preload is. Some will just fall out and others have some preload. I have rebuilt many rear ends with no spreader since I don't have one and it can be a pain installing the carrier when the bearing preload is setup correctly. I just get the bearing cups started in the housing at a slight angle and then pry and tap the unit into place. Since yours has miles on it and is not newly rebuilt I would bet that it would go back in pretty easy without the use of a spreader. I think you would be fine to go ahead and do the job.

I thought about restacking mine but after changing the rear axle lube last week, mine's chattering pretty bad. The factory fill must of been loaded with friction modifier!

The posi is now pretty tight compared to how it's been the first 50K miles.

I'm using Amsoil 75W90 Series 2000.

I tried changing the fluid in mine. I didn't add any FM, and it slips. Got my gauges the other day so i guess i'll put off the rearend for another time.
