If you are looking for a dana 80 for a first gen, I am not sure they ever came that way. Before upgrading to 2nd gen trucks, I was running 4 1st gen 1 ton c&c's and they all had the dana 70's.

mine has a 70 in it



its getting pretty loose tho, and only at 140k miles



was thinking about upgrading to a 80, possibly one with disc breaks



but i have no idea on where to get one or how much to expect to pay for it



making it work will probably be the least of my worries

ps - i put some new carrier brngs in it today



knurled the case cuz it was spreading a little



(it has one of those mag covers on it and i am glad it did)



i didnt know how to (or want to) try to mess with any adjustment (didnt want to really mess it up... lol)



the new brngs tightened it up some, but the whole thing is pretty worn out (spiders, shafts, housing, etc)



i am concerned that with this new turbo and the water meth that this one is not going to like the grades for much longer



any ideas?

I got a steal on mine for $500, hub to hub, including good brakes and shocks. I offered to sell it to another member here (no, it is not for sale, so dont even ask) for $750, and if it'd had a limited slip, he'd have taken it.



the D70s are known for throwing shims, as well as loosening of the spider gears. My 80 has some slack in the spiders as well.



Expect to pay $800-1200 for a good one with decent miles, though some are better at 300k than others at half that. One must keep in mind the calipers on the disc units have a much larger fluid capacity than the wheel cylinders, so a proprotioning valve or master cylinder swap may be in order. Something to keep in mind. For me, the 13x3. 5 shoes stop plenty well.

I'd say 750-1250 depending on condition and if it has LS or a locker..... maybe a little more wouldn't pay more than 1500.
