I believe if it's 2WD it will have the Dana 70 and the 4WD's had the Dana 80. Mine has the 70.

Scott

All Autos have the Dana 70, regardless of 2wd or 4wd.

All manual transmission trucks have the Dana 80.

This is true for 94 through 2002.

And to add on to what Jeff said, even though it doesn't really apply here, is all 3500's, regardless auto or manual, have the Dana 80.

You can also tell by looking at the back differental cover, but you unless you know what you are looking for, you need a manual to see the difference.

My 95 5spd is an 80 rear, 60 front.

Autos with the snow plow prep package got Dana 80's.

They also got the DHD transfer case instead of the DLD.

Brad

The 2500 manuals have a 80 hybrid, 80 center section and 70 wheel bearings and possibly drive axles. Look just outside the spring perches, the axle tube necks down

RMcKinney,

This site has lots of information about our axles:

Dodge Ram Axle Specifications

My 1995 auto has a Dana 70 rear axle and a Dana 60 front axle. Yours should have the same.

I'm still trying to find a site that will decode the axle tag codes.

I'm still trying to find a site that will decode the axle tag codes.

Found it:

Axle Bill of Material

Copy the code from the tag on your axle and enter it there. It should tell you your axle type. The code for my 1995 truck's front axle is 610539-1. The rear axle's code is 605588-10.

Happy hunting,

Loren
