2nd Gen Non-Engine/Transmission Dana M-80

Hi all I just finished changing the diff fluid in my 2002 3500 Dana M-80, according to the info I have it is supposed to hold 4qts and the level is supposed to be . 750 below the fill plug , my problem is I have only put 3qts in and it is at the . 750 mark. The truck is setting pretty level in the barn and has not been jacked up or moved since I started doing this. Does this sound right? I don,t want to damage the thing by being low on fluid

It takes a long time for all the old to drain out , so I would say that theres at least some of that sticking to the insides , spilt the diff. and check again after about 50-100miles .
