I received 15 virus's since yesterday. I'm getting the impression someone doesn't like me ?

My folks got a virus that went through their address book and mailed itself every 15 mins, so maybe nobody dislikes you. You could just be the victim of some idiot hacker. Sorry man I hope you get everything streightened out.

The servers at work filter out about 30% of the email sent to us. The majority are scripts and viruses.



The latest trend is to included a url in the email when the user opens the link a java script will launch the virus or some code to infect the machine. It is a real P. I. T. A trying to setup filters to clean some and allow others to pass.

Eudora

You can download Eudora for free and viruses don't tend to bother it. Another tip, if you set your incoming mail to skip over messages over 10k, Eudora allows the message to be previewed before it is opened, if the partial message is giberish, or you don't know the sender, then trash it, you not only save downloading the virus, you also save the time it would have taken.

Best way to keep your computer virus-free:



Don't use Outlook Express to read your email!



Most if not all of these viruses going around are

written to take advantage of Outlook Express (the

email program in Internet Explorer).



I use Netscape email and Yahoo email. I get some

viruses but they are not opened automatically by my

email program.



Anyone know how to change the settings in Outlook

Express so the attatchments are not opened when

you click on an email? If so, that is one way to keep

it from happening.

If Outlook Express is the same as regular Outlook then go to the Toolbar at the top of the page, click on 'View' and under that pulldown you'll see 'preview page'. Just click on it (it should already be checked if you're previewing mails, your clicking on it should uncheck it). This is the feature that's opening the e-mails and causing the problems you mentioned.

If you want to use Outlook or Outlook Express to view mail, all you have to do is turn off the preveiw pane. This is what launches any executables, or scripts attached to emails.

Since switching to Norton Antivirus 2002 from McAfee, I have no longer been getting hit with viruses. I like the "Live Update" feature of Norton. It automaticaly checks for antivirus software updates each time I log on-line.
