Just bought a 2009 6. 9 auto 4x4. After reading in here for awhile, ime starting to get depressed..... Just traded the Corvette in on the truck which has 3300 miles. Please tell me ime in good hands!! This cost me a fair chunk of money... . Ive read tons of threads (flashes to ball joints ect) If there is somthing that need immediate attention please LMK. Ill keep reading till then..... Thanks ray

Just keep up on the latest flashes (J35 recall latest flash). You can go to the dealer and see what the latest flash on your truck is. It depends how your using your truck for components/parts start needing attention and replaced (sooner or last a long time). Do the routine maintenace on the truck. The 2009+ trucks are pretty flawless w/ the emission stuff now. Just drive the truck and enjoy.

BTW, it's a 6. 7 engine, not 6. 9 in your thread/signature. .

Hey Ray -- One thing you have to realize (and you probably do already) is that any board is going to have a large majority of posts about shared problems and solutions. You don't read posts by the everyone else saying how great their truck has been. So the perception could be troublesome. The truth is, most of these trucks are trouble-free. If you're really worried, you can always buy a genuine Chrysler factory extended service contract for cheap online.

Here's an example: CHRYSLER SERVICE CONTRACTS: Extended Warranties from Chrysler. SAVE 60%! Quick Quotes. Buy Online. The prices are very competitive. There are other warranty sellers online too.

They're into year 4 on the 6. 7 with the new emissions and advanced software management and I think it's getting pretty bullet-proof. I waited before upgrading to my 2010 and am not worried. Just get the latest flashes so that you have any software issues resolved. It's likely you'll have trouble-free years / miles with your new truck. Enjoy!

While i do not know much about the 2009 truck i would say you are ok. like jayadam63 said you will only see the bad stuff on here most of the time. its people looking for help fixing a problem or people that have figured out how to fix one or even solve it before it starts. If you want to see some stuff jsut type in vp-44 and see what we are dealing with but it does not get me down. correct the problem fix it better if you can and move on. If i had to guess i bet dodge or cummins wont let something like the vp-44 happen again so you are in good shape i would say. You need to post some pics of your new ride so we can enjoy it also!!!

I am confident you did not make a mistake. My '08 has been trouble free at about 76,000 miles. Your results will be better if you use the truck as intended, though. The emissions system is likely to perform better if your truck is highway driven and used to tow or haul a load as often as possible. The grocery getters and short commute trucks are the ones that have been troublesome.

One other aspect to look at is that many members of this and other boards just love to BOMB their rides. A number of posts deal with issues resulting from high HP/ high torque. So if you moded up your Vet and burned rubber at every opportunity then keep your membership active. As a former Corvette owner I think you made a wise choice, I had a hell of a time carrying plywood in my vet.

WOW!! After reading the replies, I feel much better... ... I got by with my 95 Ram Diesel auto (160 HP) just fine so this is probably twice the power so no modding will be necissary. Click Dodge gave me free oil changes for life so the maintenance will be religious. AND I will change my sig to read 6. 7! Thanks fellas!!! Ray

Just drive it and enjoy. Watch the oil change light, it's something new and is based on driving habits. When it says to change it, have it changed in the next 500-800 miles. And like was said already, make sure the flashes are up to date. They are a great truck, especially if your towing with the trans and exhaust combo they can't be beat.

one of the reasons for the J35 was to up the parameters of the fault codes so there should be "fewer" check engine lights. Why? Iin order to decrease warranty expenses... . no problems exist... . all good

Drive it and enjoy it! I bought my '07 new in January of '08, I have had no problems in almost 90,000 KMs. Been to the dealer only 3x. The truck is everything I hoped for and more. All the complaining that goes on on these forums has to be taken with a grain of salt. Use it as info only and enjoy your truck.

Thanks guys, I called the dealer today and there are 2 recalls. One for tie rod ends and the J35 flash. Why the hell cant a dealer do those BEFORE they sell a vehicle..... just killed my Saturday..... oh well, at lease ill get to drive there and drive back!!

A good dealership will have a policy to do all the recalls and updates on every vehicle on their lot, new or used, before it's sold.

that's the spirit!!! positive attitude will help you alot - seriously.

I get to drive to the dealer this week too for egr cleaning... they have good coffee to boot... will be dealer trip #14 in my 2. 5 yrs of ownership... (I do my own basic maintenance) dealer is only 30 miles away. '08 stock. Wasn't aware of the tie rod deal - thanks for that info.

Good luck with your truck.

Wow, Darren. You are the TDR mileage leader for ISB6. 7 engines.

EB is back working in the oil patch now and is following closely behind you.

Trouble free

3 years and 29K miles--zero problems and have never seen a CEL on my 2007. 5. Up to date on recalls and oil changes. While the 2010s look great, the paid off beauty in my driveway looks even better and it's not even broken in yet. Oo.

14 Times in 2. 5 years ? Thats seems really excessive, on top of that is 840 miles . I think Dodge owes you 3 tanks of fuel to boot. Plus your time. That is a dealer trip every 2. 14 months. Please teach me your patience . I need to learn how you can not be out of your skin over this.

Yup, 7500 mi no issues. Keep the exhaust/turbo brake on at all times.

I reset the oil change at 6,000mi even though no light came on. ( changed at 4000mi just on GP).

Gotta love a truck that needs less maitainance/oil changes the harder you work it!

The manual says towing will enhanced break in. My wife liked it when I told her the manual said we had to go on vacation;-)

I for one have been extremly happy with both my Dodge Cummins trucks. A 2001 and a 2004. No troubles, engine, trans brakes etc all very good for hard working trucks. Enjoy your new truck. It will be very good for you.
