The A/C worked fine just the other week and the week before that ... now on one of the stickiest days of the year I turn the A/C on and all that happens is the clutch grabs for a few seconds, the releases, the grabs again and releases. The A/C compresor does make a bearing squeek when it does ingage and run for the 2 to 3 seconds.

Does this mean I need a new A/C compresor, or is there some way to fix the clutch?

Darn, every week it seems to be something else on the old truck that is breaking #@$%! Next is a transmission rebuild, maybe x-fer case rebuild. I'm afraid to ask what's next!

Usually when it starts and stops like that. It is low on refrigerant. I''ve got a nasty squeel from my a/c compressor. Still cools good after ten years of use.

Think I may need a new clutch?

Check refrigerant level.

Make sure your condensor is clean.

Check fan clutch.

Check wires to fan clutch, reciever dryer.

The manual says that the ac clutch will disingage when low on refrigerent. Let us know if a recharge cures it.

Will do, I go in on Wed. 6/22 to get it refilled. Guy said it should take about 2 lbs. but that the R134 is now up to $24/lb up from $8/lb last year!

I hope I don't have any leaks. This will be the first time the A/C has ever been touched since I bought the truck (11/96).

What a friggen rip-off. Once again the Feds (aka EPA Nazis), sticking it to us.

24$ a lb? I was just at napa and they had 12oz cans for 12. 99. Last I remember a pound is 16oz. . Your ac man is bendin ya over. Charging is cake, goto napa or autozone and get a can with hose, I saw a 20oz can with nice lookin hose and gauge for 28$, and the hose was reusable. You just run the ac, and fill slowly till the air works, and dont overfill.
