Hey there everyone, I'm back, but with bad news ! Few weeks back , thanks to a bad section of highway here in town , my beloved 93 suffered some major undercarraige damage... broken right knuckle where the tie rod end goes, snapped in half when I hit the bad part, dropped under the front diff, glanced off the jersey wall twice , bounced up about 4 foot or so on the initial ht , lost steering control, etc. Didn't suffer any damage to the actual body outside a scuffed up front bumper cover, rear left tail light and the back bumper. Problem being, insurance company wants to total it out !!! Some things do not look right to me,, left door is now off rom where it was.. did it suffer frame damage... I did replace the 2 u bolts on the drivers side because they got tweaked somewhat. Should i retain salvage to it, or what ??? Please offer your thoughts on the matter. TIA!

If the door isn't setting right any more. Something got tweaked. It could be frame or the cab might have buckled around a mount. Without a detailed inspection by a good body shop it could be hard to tell.

About 7 or 8 years ago my truck was totaled after being "T" boned on the I205 Glen Jackson bridge. The damage was confined to the drivers door, lower portion behind the extended cab and the lower portion of the bed below the molding. I received enough from the insurance company to rebuild my '93. I replaced my drivers side door, the lower portion of the rear panel and cut the damage lower bed away and put a tool box in its place. All this was done in a 1950s style garage. There was no frame damage.

I still carry full coverage as per my Insurance Agent for glass replacement etc. My title shows "Reconstructed Totaled"

I would say go for it if you can do the work yourself and want to keep your truck.

I'm with Bob on this, if you can fix it do it these trucks are only getting harder to find and if you fix it you know what you have.

insurance companys will total a rig so old even for just minor stuff , if you can buy it back cheap do that and use the parts as a donor truck in a gas job or what ever

We got him Covered if it's just a front axle or Frame I have enough part's to help him put it back together . He stopped by on his way home tonight and saw my Collection of Frist gen Stuff .

Great seeing you again Val... and the collection....

Yes it was Great to see you also and being I have the first gen collection to die for I have Plenty of Part's just Let me know .

:-laf Maybe you can get MMeier to trade his spare NV5600 for parts and I'll buy the NV5600 from you. :-laf:-laf:-laf

Naaaaa I'm not a stickshift guy I put it in 1 gear and let the Trans do the Work ..:-laf:-laf:-laf:-laf:-lafOo.

I would also say buy it back even if just for the parts on it. At very worst could always swap the components onto a new chassis if the frame was that tweaked.

Yeah I told him I have Several Clubcab Frames and would save him the Best 1 of the Bunch . just by way he described what happened I am willing to bet his Frame or atleast front axle is Toast .

Sorry to hear about the 93. I won't be in town until early August but could look at it then if you don't have it sorted out by then. I concur that the frame may be twisted due to the spindle breaking and subsequent impacts. The cab might be twisted too. Fixing is a lot of work...partially would depend to me on how much the insurance will pay, and whether you can up their valuation due to its excellent condition. If you put a lot of $ into fixing it, once again you will be in risky territory in the event of a future accident, unless you can get a stated value policy backed up by a credible valuation.

Looked it over good today after work and can not actually see anything bent or out of line... outside of what I previously mentioned. Did the straightedge like you said Val, lies flat everywhere I put it, etc . For some reason the insurance asshats seem to be avoiding me for some reason... couldn't possibly imagine why !!:-laf
