Went to start the truck the other day and it started fine but all instruments were dead. All idiot lights eventually came on and the odometer read "No buS" and the temp indicator shows ccd. It drove fine but has no gages/odometer/tem indicator, etc.

I went looking for loose connections and came across the plug in the pic which is on the drivers side near the hood line. I do not remember this open femal plug dangling, but I will be darned if I can find it's mate. The plug has a short lead off a main bundle of wores so you would think the mate is close, but it is certainly eluding me.

The female plug has 4 wires that go... White - White/Blue stripe - Red/Grey Stripe - Red .

Any ideas, or anyone who can run out to the garage and let me know where the mate plug is would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks in advace.

HHMMMM I think this is a test plug and there is no mating half. I think that is what I used when installing the Quad Adrenaline. I sure somebody else be more helpful.

Mine was not just hanging loose though and I thought it was gray however for some reason.

Just went out to look at my truck which is the same year and I also have that same plug dangling in the same place. So that is not your problem. I think that is a connector for those that have 4 wheel ABS, and I only have 2 wheel ABS, and am guessing your truck is the same. Connector is just long enough to reach ABS module. Also the data port connector is further down on the firewall and only has three connectors.

I would guess that you most likely have a bad ground somewhere, and probably under the dash would be my first guess.

Good luck.

In the fuse box under the hood there is a large plug that has a screw holding it in. I removed the screw, shot it with some contact cleaner and put it back together. Re-started and most everything was fixed with the exception of the check engine light, and the temp reading (indicated 111). I took it for a test drive and the tem reading seems to be working now, so now I just need to get rid of the check engine light...

Thanks for looking. I sure dont remember the plug dangling like that. Did yours have a connector on it to keep the plug clean, or was it exposed like mine?

My plug is exposed just like yours is. I would highly suggest checking all your grounds and connectors to make sure they are clean. Electrical gremlins sure can be a bear on these electronic vehicles...

That's the one data port!!!! I have 4 wheel ABS so maybe why I don't have the other open plug. I knew somebody would come through for you.

the ccd buss works by the instrument cluster suppling a 5 volt on two wires. that 5 volt must be present to communate to all the other modules. Check for 5v on both wires at the correct odb pins or elseware. The ccd talk to the ecm, pcm (plug 3), abs, air bag, odb port, radio (with steering wheel controls), auto transmission (?), body control timmer and overhead console. A fsm lists the colors & pin numbers. The procedure if no 5v is present is to unplug EVERY device & check for open or shorted wire to ground (chafing). Remember once you unplug the instrument cluster you won't have the 5 volts. I think the fsm states 50 ohm max on each leg. there is also one plug half way between the ecm & pcm, right above the valve cover. I think once you locate the bad wire you will be in busness. Another note the ccd used twisted wires, never run any high current wires next to them. I hope this is clear and it helps you.

Did you ever get your problem soved Bobo? I have the same exact problem only it is intermittant. My gauges don't work, odometer reads "no bus", and the overhead display reads CCD. After about a minute of running, everything returns to normal. There doesn't seem to be any loss of power during this failure.

mine has done this..

Mine has done this a few times occasionally. Any chance its related to the "lazy wait to start" light? If you could elaborate on a fix just in case someone else has the problem in the future.

Thanks

Craig

I had the same problem on my 2001 a few months back and took it to a local repair shop to have them use their code reader. They found that one of the computer connectors was dirty. They cleaned it and all is good now. Sorry I don't remember which computer or which connector it was. Hope this helps.

Well lets give this a shot what is causing this problem is the CTM which stands for Control Timer Module which is under the dash on the driver side there are 2 diff modules one is a base mod and the other is a Premium version which is the one that is used on all the trucks that has a lot of diff functions to control. The premium module has two plug ins. It is concealed under the drivers side end of the instrument panel inboard of the instrument panel steering column opening where it is secured with two screws to a stamped steel bracket. The CTM is enclosed in a molded plastic housing. Now that you know what you are looking for the fix is simple go to Radio Shack and buy a can of electronic cleaner. Unplug both of the electrical conn and spray the Module conn and the wire conn. A lot of times the overhead will display CCD which stands for Chysler Collision Detection. Hope this helps

We chased a problem very similar to this on a 98 and it turned out to be a broken wire to the data bus connector burried deep inside the dash above the obdII port. there is one main wire that feed buss that has wires for each of the guages

Upon removing the instrument cluster and reinstalling it several time, I must have cleaned the contacts on the plug-in connector behind it or finally seated it properly. The problem has never returned.

i have the same issues as most. took it to auto zone, they said transmission control module. going to transmission shop on monday to make sure. will let you know what i come up with.

My gauges eventually died completely. I solved the problem by pulling the instrument cluster and reseating. Over 4-years later, it is still working.
