The dash is cracking from the screw near the windshield on the passenger side of my '01. In looking at it, it looks like its a seperate piece from the lower piece. I did a search and it looks like its called an Upper Pad, but I can't get to a part number. Am I correct that its an upper pad. Can this upper piece be removed seperately by removing the dash screws by the windshield, and screws behind the cluster bezel, glove compartment, etc. ? I did a search here on forums and found some info on 3gens, but I think there is a difference. The service manual doesn't show much information on this, only gage cluster removal and I don't think I need to do that. I'm still trying to track on part numbers for the upper pad and cluster bezel (oh ya its cracked too and won't make another removal). Any help on part number(s) would help too making sure I have the right one before going to dealer.

Call these people and ask for Tony. You might want to be sitting down before you ask the price though. It seems easy enough to remove. There are glue on covers on E-Bay but I do not know how well they work. I would not buy a used bezel because for a few dollars more you can get a new plain one that will last for years in the sun.

To me I thought the bezel was the plastic around your guages? behind your sterring wheel? I have had that replaced but I'm having the same problem my dash has cracked from the screw at the windsheild, I know that LMC has the upper pad and so does summit or I'm just going to by a dash cover I have noticed that the left side is starting to do the same thing. I have heard and seen this common in most 01 and 03 gens. Good Luck

Do a search for replacement dash cover from a place in AZ. Put two of these in and they are the best next thing to a new piece from DC. they only come in Black, but you know the routine about changing the color. Call Brandon @ Geno`s

Guys, thanks for the replies. I already got sticker shock when checking the price of dash replacement. Thats why I looked at just doing what they called an Upper Pad. The exploded view shows and upper and lower and the sticker shock came from looking at a dash replacement. The Upper pad is still about 3+ bills at the dealer I use for part information. What I can't tell from the exploded view or the service manual, is if I can remove just the upper part. Also have some concern about the passenger air bag piece. Thats why I had hoped to find someone that has replace one of these. Mesenheimer, I will go to the site and place call, thanks for info. SMacLeod you are correct that the bezel is the piece behind the steering wheel and is black (only). Soot, will also do another search for "dash replacement" and I wouldn't care if it was only black if its what I can use. I already have the paint (hopefully its still good) that I used on the pillar pod years ago :-laf . I am out of town and will update when I get back. Thanks again.

Sam if he is not interested in it I would love to see it, if not I am going to get a dash cover.

A yard I frequent has a 2000 that has the dash pulled apart. I'll head over there and check it out this afternoon or tomorrow and try to get some pics of how the dash goes together.

Later,

Joe
