Thinking of buying a 2014 Ram Diesel. speaking to seller he says a light on the dash comes on when in re-gen mode and he just keeps on driving. Is that a fact?

Sounds like a stupid question, but not fully familiar with the 4 gens yet. Also realize I posted in wrong forum section. Thanks for your help.

Find out more about this light. I have a ‘14 and there is no factory light that indicates when in regen. There is a message that shows up when the DPF filter is full. How often is this occurring?

I know my son's 2013.5 truck did not have any light that tells you when you are in Regen! The EPA and the auto makers wants the REGEN process seamless so, that drivers did not know when the vehicle is in the Regen phase.

I know my 2008 Dodge and my wife's 2011 VW Jetta TDI did not have any lights telling you that the REGEN process was occurring.

You only get the dash indication when a normal active regen isn’t able to clean the DPF enough and it fills up to around 80%. This is usually only the case with excess idling, city driving, and short trips.

How many total hours and how many idle hours? How many miles on it?

If you get the dash indication you do need to drive it, preferably at 45 or above, for a good 20 minutes.

Couple winters ago, I would get the “DPF is 100% full” message every time I started the truck. As in, I would start the truck and run it til the “DPF empty” message appeared. I would immediately shut the truck off, wait a couple seconds and restart the truck. The “DPF is 100% full” message would come right back on. I could do this all day long with the same outcome. The truck would go into regen every time I did this. Brought the truck to two different dealers and neither could find anything wrong.

I couldn't get the Drive and Idle hours from him. Truck has about 150,000 miles on it. He said its the DPF 80% message that has come up a few times and he kept driving to clear it. When I look at the truck I should be able to toggle through to get the total drive & idle hours info I believe.
