Hey guys, tonight I was driving my truck when I thought I saw my dash lights go off, but thought, nah. Then, as I'm pulling out of a drive thru, I see my lights go off, then on. It happens one more time after hitting a bump, but it is not limited to bumps, it happened at slow speeds on a flat surface too. Is this my switch again? Or some other well documented gremlin? Thanks... .

Mine seem to flicker a little. I had the gen light going on the other day. I think my alternator wants to visit the rebuild shop, soon.

And then I need to start checking all my grounds.

loose fuse holder/fuse?

You might want to check that all the fuses are correctly seated in their holders, especially the ones in the small fusebox at the LHS of the dash which you can see when the driver's side door is open. If the dash lighting fuse is suspect, you'll have this effect...

Took my alternator to the shop today.

Aparently all the diodes were smoked:eek:

Didn't think it was running that bad

Charging up good now:D

Haven't been able to detect flickerage, traffic was a little too critical this p. m.

my headlight and daslights flicker most of the time i installed new optima batterieand checked the grounds, but still have the problem, anyone have this experiance aslo.....

98 3/4ton 4x4, 12 valve extracab ???????

Yep! I had my dash lights go out and it was because of the plastic harness that connects the wires to the headlight switch. The plastic block traps heat and then the wires get hot and the copper anals. When the wire gets hot it stops letting electricity flow. I went to the dealer and they wanted almost a hundred dollars for another plastic block and wire to splice onto the afore mentioned burnt wire. Instead I made notes of where which wire went and then cut all the wires off and used my own connectors. I crimped the connectors onto the newly stripped wire ends and reinstalled them on my headlight switch without the plastic block. That was over a year ago and to date not one problem. I've checked the switch and wires and everything's cool.

As a side note a friend thought he had problems with flickering but it was just the intake air heater cycling on and off. Make sure the truck is up to running temp before deciding which is your problem.

Check the connections to the intake heater solenoids. They are 90 degree boots that slip on the threaded posts of the solenoids. I had the flickering problem, pulled the connectors off, squeezed them a little with pliers and pushed them back on. That fixed the problem. The solenoids are located on the driver side fender well.
