2nd Gen Non-Engine/Transmission Dash panel\A Pillar squeek fix !!

Found my dash panel\A pillar squeek which has been driving me nuts over the years. Turns out it was the black plastic cowl cover. Had it off to clean the crap out from underneath it,and the noise is now gone. I used thin butyl tape underneath it to insulate and secure it better. Looks as if it was moving around quite a bit as the paint is worn down to shiny metal in several places. Always thought the noise was coming from inside the cab,but i guess not. Might be something to check on your rig,as a lot of people have this complaint. You can actually lift up the corners a bit and see under it,it will be pretty obvious where it is rubbing.

that squeek that that never changes due to speed, bumps, weather, anything? It is always there? Cause that's the one I have, and it drives me insane!!!! The black cowl that you're talking about, I take it means the one behind the hood, before the windshield? THe one the wipers sit down on? I'll have to take a look at it today. Thanks for the pointer.

Yes,it was there most of the time ,hot,cold,and wasn't always just when you hit a bump. I has driven me nuts for almost 5 years,never could find it,and I swore up and down it was in the left upper dash or behind the lower portion of the A pillar. I had taken things off,insulated things,etc,etc. I can't believe I couldn't find it sooner.



It is the black cover under the hood,where the wipers are. You could probably just pull off the cowl to hood seal and pull up the edges and see where it rubs. Probably wouldn't have to take it right off to fix it,but it wouldn't hurt.

Had the same problem last winter, luckily I stumbled onto the cause by accident. Tightening the cheap plastic pieces retaining it cured the problem.



Now if I could only track down the plastic rattle under the dash.
