When I bought my trucks used back in '04,it had the DTRL activated. They said it was a Canadian truck traded in. Any who, I've grown tired of having the lights on all the time and asked the dealership bout two years ago to change the country of origin and they said they weren't able to. I just blew it off at the time, last oil change I again asked to have the lights disabled and mentioned to be sure and change the country of origin. I got the truck back and they again told me they couldn't disable the lights. I asked if they changed the country of origin and they said it didn't need changing since it was changed when the speedometer and what not were changed when the truck was traded in. WTF? Are these guys dumb *****? What are they over looking? I have one other dealership I could visit, but its a pain to get up early and drive 55 miles to be there at 8:00am,spend $65. 00 to find out they can't do it either. Can a Smarty disable the lights? I'm thinking of buying one. Any ideas out there? Thanks for any help.

bs. . I told mine to make it a Mexico truck, so the fog light would stay on with the hi beams< as the went throught the menues, but that didnt change anything else.

On the older trucks (and cars) changing the country code was not always as easy as it sounded. I had to play with them over and over and many times it just never worked. In the older stuff it was never set up to be a dealer correctable item like it is in today's vehicles.

But that being said, it can't hurt for the dealer to at least try.

I've bought several trucks from the same dealer... when I asked him to do this on the first truck, he struggled to find the right combination... Once he got it down he found he could charge a fee to new buyers... . but has always done this for me as part of the sale...

He's since also done this for me on some jeep's and cars... .

Does anyone know if its possible to use a smarty to change country code or disable the DTRL? I don't know what to do at this point. The other local dealership has a bad rep and I swore years ago I'd never go back to them.

My 01 is a Canadian truck, they changed everything over but could not turn off the DTRL. The smarty does not have the capability to turn it off on my 01, I doubt it can on the newer trucks either.

So I might not be able to have the dealership disable the lights, how about adjusting the switch on the parking brake? I have to push the brake a quarter way down to turn the lights off when parked, how does one adjust the switch so it will turn off after the first click or two?

Well you're at it (disabling that nifty safety feature) get rid of the high mount rear brake light too, especially the one you likely have on the family car.

Quit being a douch, just because I want to disable the DTRL doesn't mean I don't drive without lights on. Perhaps there might be another reason I need them disabled.

My 05 is a Canadian truck and I sweet talked a dealer into turning them off.

I forget for sure how he did it but my memory says to go into customer preferred settings and it was in there.

I have had a couple of re-flashes done and they have stayed off but I have to double check the high idle because it usually has to be turned on again.

On my 99 you lost the DRL's when you pulled out the reverse light fuse.

The dealer that tried to disable the DRL's throught the scan tool is a liar, it can be done.
