well when my dodge had 6k miles on it i went to iraq, left the truck with the folks. asked them to take it down and get the TSB's done for door moldings and a few others. they said "no, we wont do the door moldings because they are not torn" well now at 40k my moldings are both tearing. "its not in the 36k mile period anymore, you have to pay 143 dollars for parts and labor to fix it"

i asked the J-A why they wouldnt do it before, he said they should have... so why wont they do it now? ill try every dealership from here to san diego (im in eugene now) if i have to...

Your better off doing the TSB yourself. It costs about $23 per side and takes less than 5 minutes total to install. Do it yourself and you don't have to worry about them damaging something while it's at the dealer.

That sucks. Your parents should have ripped them right there.

i was in Iraq and didnt find out what happened till after the fact.

ill let them go a while longer and then replace them myself. i think that since a problem has been noticed as a design flaw it should be fixed for free reguardless of the mileage on the truck... maybe i just see it as good customer relations...

I'm in the same boat. Mine are ripped now at 41K. I think I'll do them myself instead of paying for them to do the work. But I agree they should fix their design flaw.

I recently took my 5'er in for a torn seal on the slide out during the warranty period, and got the same response from the dealer. They said seal maintenance is my responsibility, and I need to apply a rubber seal conditioner to all my seals. So I started doing the same thing to my truck seals. Hopefully this will prevent any future issues. Its available at almost any RV dealer parts store.

Are these just a bad design - I mean

I haven't looked at the TSB - my son has an 06 - have they designed them better or are you just getting another set like the 1st one that will be poorly designed as well????

If I am understanding this correctly, your moldings were not actually torn at 6,000 miles.

One thing to keep in mind - in some cases, parts that are replaced under warranty due to failure have to be submitted to the manufacturer or retained for a period of time for a regional rep to inspect. Your dealer would have been hard-pressed to prove they deserve warranty payment/compensation to replace a part that did not show visible damage as specified in the TSB.

The dealership still has to buy the moldings and pay the tech to install it. If they tell you it's a warranty job and they get denied because the part was deemed "not yet failed", they either have to come back to you for payment (not likely), or they have to eat it (bad business). If you have an established relationship with your dealer, they will occasionally go to the wall for you. I've been a customer at my dealer for over 10 years, I get all my routine work done there, I'm on a first name basis with the service managers, and they go out of their way to make sure my Rams were/are in working order. There were a couple of probs with my 96 where they either got things done under warranty that were borderline, or they applied a "valued customer" discount on the job to save me some money. But I don't/can't expect free repairs if I'm not completely entitled to them.

Call D. C. and explain the situation. Its a known issue. Any service manager at a dealer could auth. the repair and I bet any rep would sign off on them.

it is correct in saying that they were not torn on the first visit at 6k miles. i feel if it is a known flaw torn or not they know it is going to happen and DC should have them all replaced. i like the way the new seals look on the 06's and am hoping thats how they are. i am sure they block road noise better as well.

im going to call star up and see what i can do.

Mine started tearing at about 15K... I am now at 47K and still havent had them done... I did not notice any increase in wind noise and I dont have any water leaks even when driving through rain at 70mph so Im not gonna worry about it unless they start to completly fall apart... but $23 a side is very reasonable so Ill prolly do it before I sell the truck

the wind noise is highe on the ram due to design, thats a big reason why they have a second seal. mine are not leaking or any more noisy than when not torn, but the new design is a more solid ruber and has a tighter clearance. much better design. i dont see why i should have to pay 46 dollars for the seals and an hour and a half to fix a known design flaw. maybe it is just the concept to me... i dunno

Your correct. I use to have techs that when a vehicle came in went through the TSB list of that vehicle and if under warranty correct it without being asked. ALSO went MANY times on a vehicle SOMEWHAT out of WARRANTY on a compliant that a TSB addressed and service manager would sign off on.

Always figured this is the way its suppose to be done. Never had a REP say not too. In fact I asked a D. C. Service Rep last year about the out of warranty on the updated alternator brackets on 03s. He said he EXPECTED his dealers to take care of them at ANY MILEAGE as it was a KNOWN issue. I don't GET these dealer personal that spend SOME much time saying NO instead of making it a WIN WIN situation. Its NOT their money(dealer) its the MANUFACTURES! In fact UNLESS a repair made the service writer, tech, service manager,DEALER OWNER dosen't make a CENT! I LIKED making MONEY and having a big repeat base of customers. I would wager a $1000 that theres not a Factory D/S/M out there that would not sign off without a blink on a out of warranty door rubbers that the TSB addresses. I never said OH they ALL wear and TEAR BUT YOURS are OK at this time. Hell replace the darn things with the updated ones and be done.

this is why I really don't like chrysler. at Cummins if there is an issue it gets corrected no matter what. if the part is known to fail than the trp or campaign will cover it, regardless, most of them state to "discard" old parts. of course Cummins is a little more customer satisfaction orientated than chrysler.

but if it is on a recall than it is a known problem and I would think that it should be done anyway.

What, did you mistakenly think you owned a Honda and expected service?

I'm sorry to hear about your troubles. I only joked about that because Honda service is far superior (on average) than any of the so-called "big three. " Because of the poor service from Chrysler, Ford, or Chevy, I won't have any sympathy if they simply go away. They can blame themselves for chasing customers away. And it doesn't help them to have far superior competition.

sad to say i agree... .

I do not find the issue to be a D. C. /Chrysler thing or G. M. etc. Its a DEALER PERSONAL thing. As I stated I ran into a D. C. DSM and he WANTED his dealers to take care of KNOWN issues/TSB/s even out of warranty. The reason I sked him was in early 05 my neighbors EARLY 03 split the alternator bracket and he had 90k on the truck. I told him about the TSB for this. He went all the way across town(long ways in the GREATER ATLANTA area)like 70 plus miles to his selling dealer. They quoted him like $200. He asked to speak to the SERVICE MANAGER and the guy got almost nasty about it. I told neighbor to call D. C. no help etc. Long and short took 4 70mile drives and TWO phone calls and THEY did do it at no charge. I mentioned this months later when I ran into a D. C. rep I know. That was ONE of his stores. He got RED in the FACE and said Thats NOT the way they are told to handle this stuff. I mentioned how WE did it before I retired and he said THATS HOW,same deal. Now I have a friend thast had same issues with a Toyota dealer(he bought it from) on a known problem and got as bad or worse treatment from them. Went to another Toyo dealer he never had been in and they took care of minor KNOWN issue that there was a TSB on with a smile. When a REP goes into a store issues are and should be discussed. He tells Service Manager what the policys are on issues etc.

Hot off the press, today, my room mate took in his '06 GT Mustang to get the check engine light turned off. Turned out to be a "massive fuel vapor leak" Anyways, they gave him a loaner Kia that looked like someone lived in it, and then, he asked about having Ford Motorsport parts installed and they told him not only NO, that it would also void the warrenty, and flagged his car!! He's fighting with Ford right now, as he told me this about 30 mins ago. Sounds like my little experience at the local Dodge dealer (owned by same group) Svc mgr told me that he would charge me $100 to enable the high idle feature, and looked at me in the face like I was crazy when I told him how easy it is to do.
