You may remember my posting of a couple of weeks ago concerning how I was on vacation and got stranded in Torrey, Utah because the radiator shroud had rubbed a hole in the radiator. My CTD had 31006 on it.

Oo. As a reminder if you have a 2003 you should check for this known defect. Facing the Cummins, look down and left to the back of the radiator where the plastic shroud has a protrustion where the fan clutch accuator arm goes up to the fan hub. You can't see from the top if the protrustion is in contact with the radiator. Crawl under to get a better look. If it is in contact, take it to the dealer.

Anyway, I sent a polite but firm letter to the DC Customer Center with photographs and receipts on Monday April 11th. They actually called me on Friday April 15 leaving a message that they would reimburse me for the full cost of $778. 78. :) Their message even used the magic word "defect. " The check arrived on April 21.

It is nice to see DC step up to the plate. I had already contacted my lawyer to alert her to the possible need for one of those lawyer letters. Way to go DC Oo.

That's good to hear. I actually had a radiator on my '97 V10 replaced, covered by DC, out of warranty at about 45,000 miles. I had coolant loss issues from early on (which I now suspect was the infamous V10 pourous heads, which I did not know about at the time).

However, since my dealer had it documented, finally they discovered a pinhole leak in the radiator, and it was replaced under warranty, even though I was out of warranty.

Can you see why I try to take my business to this dealer? There ARE good ones out there.
