I had the same problem with my rear bumper at two months, and the same response fromt he dealer. Well, being that I am in the biotech-manufacturing industry, a little HCl salt (pH 0. 4) on the back side of the bumper caused rust holes in 2 weeks! Dealer was amazed at how fast the rust progressed. New bumper and eight months later, the rear bumper Just barely getting a rust tint to the inside. #ad

The byproduct of what we make is some realy nasty stuff. it will eat the 316SS process components in a week if we don't clean them immediately!! Teflon and glass is about the only thing that can withstand the HCl salts. THe bumper thing just kind of came to me while i was doing some component cleaning. The look on the service writers face was great. He agreed that there must have been a serious defect in my bumper to rot that bad. I just had to help the natural course of rust along a bit... .

Sorry if this post sounds like a B**ch session, but I have been going back and forth with the service manager at the dealership where I purchased our truck. Last week I was under the truck and noticed the inside/underside of the bumpers(both front and back) had considerable amounts of rust, not to mention the discolorization of the plastic around the edges of the front bumper. I called to ask for warranty service, and the manager informed me unless the rust has caused pitting or actual pinholes, the warranty does not cover the issue, and it is a matter of owner maintenance. Man, I didn't know I could speak in tongues, but once you get mad enough, I guess anything is possible, except quality service from your dealership. Any suggestions? Sorry about the long post.
