Guys,

Big Don here once again I need to draw on your expertise for 2nd gen trucks.

I have been toying with my '00 (new to me, but it has 30,000miles on it). I already have a power Edge EZ and am tryin' to decide which injectors to go with. I have a 99 with a Banks Powerpack TLC and 275's in it. It runs great. I would like something that gives more power than the 275's. My plans are Edge EZ, injectors K&N filter (possibly the Scotty Air system), 14cm housing (possibly someone's modified turbo, boost, pyro and fuel pressure gage. I am alittle afraid of the extrude honed injectors, basically due to my ignorance, but I am afraid of leakage, washed cylionder walls, etc. I would like to have somewhere around 400hp and enough torque to require clutch upgrade. Planning on clutching my 99 later this year and might as well do both trucks in same time frame.

Please advise on safe mods for 24 valve trucks that will put me in the ball park.

thanks

Don Peters

If you want 400hp,with just an edge EZ,thne yo'll need at least DD3's I would think. If you go bigger, you will likely have real bad smoke off boost.

DD 11s will give you around 80 rw hp and the comp. 80 to 90hp to the wheels, this is acording to what DTT has listed on their web page I believe. That would leave you shy of 400rw hp.

I ran DD2's + an EZ prior to my current setup..... This a a great combination for power and egt's! According to DD their DD2's have lower egt's then the stock injectors. I would recommed this setup to anybody who wants a nice mix of power and towability.

I have the Comp and DD2s. I had 275s and changed to DD2s about a month ago. I will have to disagree about egts with DD2s. I can hit 1500. I haven't towed anything since I put them in but I really like the DD2 power and feel. I think you'll be happy with them.

Don, the combo of the Edge EZ and Bully Dog step 3 injectors yielded 366 RWHP for my truck on the dyno. I had also upgraded to the HX40 and the 'Scotty' air system and the A. T. S. manifold before the dyno run.

I have since swapped out the 3's for BD 5's and I love 'em, but I don't tow. I don't have any egt problems running empty, but I would hazard a guess that they could get a bit hot if you were pulling a heavy load in high elevations. Anything larger than step 3 injectors will require fuel line upgrades, IMHO. Meaning that you either loose the banjo bolts completley or swap them out for bored out banjos as the large injectors really suck fuel. Also, make sure you fuel pressure is good before adding the showerheads, for the same reason. I'm guessing that the addition of the step 5 injectors added about 40 ponies, giving me a grand total of around 400 +/- RWHP with the injectors and the EZ box. Once spring rolls around and the winter blend fuel is bye bye, I'll take another run on the same dyno to see what the larger injectors added ( I promise Brandon). I didn't include the TST box in the picture as I hardly ever use it, but it is a real kick in the pants when set on kill mode.

Just my opinion here, but I prefer to make the majority of my HP with the EZ and large injectors, keeping the TST as a once in a while toy. Personally, I don't care to tax the VP44 beyond what I'm asking it to do already with the injectors/EZ. The extra burden of the hard solenoid duty cycle on the VP44 with the heavy fueling boxes can't be good for it's life expectancy, again, just my opinion.

As for a clutch, I'm very happy with the McLeod dual disk street. To date, it has held everything that I have thrown at it and has no real issues, chatter free and smooth transitions through the gears. The only other clutch that I would consider for high HP would be South Bend Clutch. Peter released his clutch for my truck after I purchased the McLeod, so I don't have any experience with the clutch personally, but many other members here are using the clutch and hold Peter and the SBC in a high regard. Make sure you choose a GOOD installer if your not doing the job yourself, makes all the difference in the world.

Hope this helps !!!

YEAH, what bigsaint said

don, i have dd3's, and absolutely love them. I tow about a 9000 pound trailer, and with the combo of dd3's and ez box, i have not found a hill yet that i can not greatly exceed the speed limit on if ya know what i mean. i do not have any egt problems while towing with this combo, and smoke is very controllable with the right foot. IMHO If you want the 400 hp mark for a tow vehicle, you are going to need to go to a pump tap style box (blue chips wizard, power max, edge comp box etc etc. ) with these boxes, you can shut them off when doing the heavy towing, and crank up the juice when hot rodding. i cant speak to how well the mega shower heads work for towing, , but if anybody doese tow with the bd 5s or dd supermentals give us a report, inquiring minds want to know. (then i can order a set:D) you will need a turbo if you are going for the 400 hp mark also. this is the point i am at, just waiting for some of the guys to do the r&d on all these new turbos hitting the market right now.

ps, i have the south bend confe, good clutch, dont hesitate to buy it

cylinder wash-down

Don't worry about fuel leaks, cylinder wash-down, or anything else with DD's injectors. The extrude hone process he employs is the best! I have DD II's, installed two other sets in my friends trucks, all three run great with excellent oil analysis results... . no oil, fuel, contamination. Go for DD II's. JMHO

You can check my signature below to see what I had/have on my 2001 ETH truck. I list 368 HP / 790 #'s Torque, and that was with an EZ. I now have a Comp box, and have not yet dyno'd again to see what that added. I sold the EZ box to someone else.

Even on the dyno, I never saw over 1200* on the pre-turbo pyro.

DD SuperMentals... ... . yummy :D:D:D

SuperMentals are definitely not for towing. On a couple of short trips delivering customers trucks, the EGT's weren't too bad, but the constant haze going up any slight grade I'm sure would make the local PD's frown. This is with about 11,000 lb. in tow.

For everyday driving, they are a blast. Compared to the 3's, there is a noticeable difference.

If you want to do any heavy towing, I'd stay around the DD2 area.

Tom, are your seriously thinking about them?

Fred, when I decide to make the jump, I'll give you a call :D

I think I'd like to do my front end leveling kit/DT track bar/control arm replacement/new shcks first. Maybe sometime mid year I'll be seriously thinking towards the SuperMentals.

Oh, and when the new series of the SPA gauges are out, I will definitely be calling you.

Hey Guys, Good to see you are still after the power.

Been off-line for several months so I thought I'd chime in and give the status report on mine.

First I have changed the PE and edge to the comp, very nice box.

The DDIIs that I have are the black model and with the auto, HX40, and DTT 93% converter tend to smoke heavily under boost. I adjusted the comp to the lowest setting on level one and no smoke (stealth mode). I have all the exhaust flow that I need with the HX40, never gets over 1400 pre-turbo, but better think real hard about how much noise you want in the cab before getting a 40. I have added no fuel line upgrades nor do I have a fuel pressure guage. I am sure that the pressure is low but I haven't noticed any lack of fuel. I have been running this setup for 11/2 years and 60k miles and have had no engine or pump problems. I can acount that this settup will eat trannys if used for evil, so far the DTT seems to be doing great.

I have no ETs or dyno numbers to give as I live 300 miles from anywhere. But, if I launch at or over 10lbs. boost I must have the transfer case locked in.

I almost forgot, fuel mileage is very good for this hot rod. 22+ on the highway.

Question. . What are the Part #s for the walker mufflers 3" and 4" straight through?
