Has anyone spent the bucks and ordered some injectors from DD? If so, which ones did you get and what are your impressions? What turbo are they selling as an upgrade. Their site says it is not an HX40.

Cobrajet I have run the DD2's and now have the DD3's in my 03 HO. I just installed their new turbo today, too. The DD2's I ran are now in 4xquadrod's 03 California Auto.

It doesn't look like a typical HX-40, I know it has some special components too.

It's been over 100 degrees for about 2 weeks now, and I see just a hint of more smoke off of idle and between shifts compared to the 2's. I did get a little less smoke taking off and between shifts with the 2's, but the temps have shot up 15 degrees higher here.

I've only put a few miles on the truck with the DD turbo, but so far I like it. The exhaust tone has changed, not the airy sound. This is with a 5 inch exhaust, too.

I'll put more miles on it this week, and once it is ready will run it hard to see how it responds.

Boost pressures are lower during normal driving compared to the stock turbo. Again, keeping it under 20 psi for break-in.

I have DD3's, DD turbo, Edge EZ, DD intake, DD Pusher pump, SouthBend Con-FE, and DD 5" Exhaust on my '03. I have only had the set-up on for a week and am so far impressed. Should be around 500 RWHP according to DD. The EGT seems to run a little high when you step into the throttle, and it blows black smoke every time I shift. I am in Utah where the elevation is approx. 5,000 ft. , and that may be why the EGT is a little warm. Also, the truck only has 6,000 miles on it. I have set the Edge EZ back to level 1 and that puts my EGT at approx. 850 degrees while cruising empty at 75mph. When I stand on the throttle on level one, the EGT creeps up to around 1300 degrees, but doesn't seem to go any higher. If I set the EZ on level 4, the EGT jumps up to around 950 degrees while cruising at 75mph, and if I stand on the throttle on level 4, I can easily hit 1400+ degrees. My plan is to run truck the way it is for another 6,000 miles and see if the mileage increases and the EGT's go down. If not, I will probably trade my DD3's in for DD2's. Other than that, I love the upgrade. The kits were incredible. We did not have to buy any additional parts, and the kits went together like they were designed to, no modifications. The power is incredible. Smooth and constant all the way past redline. As the RPM's get higher, the truck seems to pull harder. All in all I am very happy with DD and the items I have purchased from them. :)

Did you notice any drop in MPG with the DD2's? Any other mods done to the truck while running them? Thanks!

Not really, mileage appears to stay about the same as with just the EZ or stock. No other changes during the time with the DD2's. Now with the 3's, the Turbo just went on Monday, and so far, it has been doing great. Phoenix temps were around 110 the last couple of days, and EGT's are very manageable, and cool down times are quick.

So I guess I should ask the inevitable question. :D If I'm not planning in any turbo changes right away (if ever, yeah right) should I go with he DD2's or DD3's? With the 2nd gen trucks everyone always says just get the 3's so you don't have to sell your 2's when you want the 3's. But I was under the assumption that the 3rd gen turbo can't push enough to keep the EGT's down with 3's. I will be doing a fair amount of pulling and allowing someone else to drive the truck and really hate to have to give them a book of instructons with the keys. ;)

330-340hp is about the useable limit on hp (for towing anyway) with the stock turbo - regardless of how you get there (injectors, box or any combination).

How are you figuring that HP number? Dyno or published?

Let's say dyno #'s, truck is at about 240-250. So I could go with DD2 injectors (80 hp) and then get an EZ. I could leave it on 1 or 2 for towing and if I feel frisky bump it up and be careful with the EGT's. Then when I decide my warrantee is no good to me anymore I can put a turbo on it and leave the EZ on 5.

We ONLY use rear wheel dynoed numbers. DD2's are 75hp/150ft-lbs. On the '03, the box will add more than it's normal numbers when combined with injectors. 2's and the TTPM on setting 4 would yield around 150-160hp gain over stock.

That's what I thought. I just didn't want to be already close to the line with the DD2's, and I'm really not ready to throw a turbo on a 10,000 mile truck just yet. Maybe next year. :D
