Was looking over DD's website and saw that they now offer what they call "Super Mental Injectors". I couldn't find any info on their website about them though... . Does anyone know anything about these injectors? Looking to upgrade injectors soon and trying to decide which way to go. Leaning towards DDIII's.

Thanks,

Doug

In one truck we dyno'ed the SM injectors were about 30 hp over the latest design DD3s and they also gave a slightly lopey idle, #ad
really nice sound like a gasser with a cam in it. They aren't dribbling fuel, its just the very trying [quote from Piers back in his 12 valve Scourge days] VP44 pump trying to keep up with them #ad
You need other upgrades like the HX40 and good lift pump pressure before considering them.

Lawrence is continuing development of similar injectors for the 12 valves, since even the poor old Sickly Rams deserve more fuel #ad

I'm interested as well. Also, if John (Sportbike) reads this, please send me an e-mail as I lost your address. Are the DD SM's larger than a "stage 4" injector ? Sportbike had sent me info on his injectors, I don't recall the exact numbers, but they put out quite a bit more fuel than the BD's I'm running now. If we could get Wiz and Sportbike to reply, I think we might have some real numbers to play with. I'm still looking for a good way to challenge the McLeod #ad

Yes I have them installed they do lope a little I like that everyone looks at me like there is something wrong untill I take off, I think I am under pressured on the fuel system right now but they are a bit stronger IMO they do smoke a little bit more but who cares about that I think these injectors and two boxes and two turbos plenty of fuel supply will be the hot ticket oh and don't ask about fuel economy because I don't watch it so I have no clue and I also tow with them no problems as of yet. Brandon went for a ride with me yesterday maybe he will chime in and give his oppinion

When you select injectors I suggest you consider the vendor's quality and reputation in terms of (1) fuel atomization; (2) spray pattern; (3) spray angle; (4) horsepower. In approximately the above order in importance, with quality control and cleanliness of injector assembly (especially if abrasives were used), remember that hole size and amount of fuel flow may or may not correlate directly to power. I am rather picky about what goes into my Ram because I don't want the engine to fail. Thus, I use DD or Bosch exclusively. It's your engine; do what you want.

Hey Wiz, I see you say "two boxes". Have you tried another yet ? What ARE you going to do to add more fuel to that sorely under fueled ETH #ad
? Have to add, I LMAOF everytime I read one of your posts, minus all those non-existent periods. #ad

Forgot to add, let me know if you get anywhere on the two box issue, I promise, no more period jokes. I was thinking of piggybacking a JVD torque enhancer to the EZ, but have to wonder if the results would be the same as all the others.

Spoke with DD today... Keith at DD told me that they won't sell these injectors unless they install them. Not sure what I am going to do, but the closest shop is 3 states away. Maybe just go with the DDIII's.

Jetpilot, I was just going to post the same info on the SM DD's. Keith sent e-mail(super fast response, as always). Good thing is that they are available, bad thing is I have to drive to N. C. for the nearest install #ad
. Well, I'm not heading to N. C. anytime soon so they are out. Your options are now limited to DD injectors, BD injectors (they make a stage 4, but have heard that they put out ALOT of smoke) and Sportbikes injectors. Does anyone have Sportbike's e-mail address. I had it but it was lost in my Hotmail account #ad
. If anyone has his address, please e-mail same to me. Out of respect for his privacy, please don't post it here. I still have not figured out why DD has to do the install on the super mentals #ad
? Anyone ? Joe D. ? The e-mail that Keith sent to me indicated that they require that you have several mods. already in place on your truck, including an HX40. They also request that you don't tow with these, just for going "super mental", their quote. I'm guessing that they just want to help make sure that a BOMBing wannabe doesn't melt down his/her truck. Can't find much fault with that.

Guys

While i generally dont get involved in hp discussions and i am certainly not speaking for diesel dynamics here is my take on this situation.

I like to consider my self a responsible vendor. While as a vendor i develop and design products, not all of them end up being for sale.

It is a difficult choice, while we are definately in business to make money we must take responsiblity for our actions and products.

I personally have a set of super mental injectors on order, but my agenda is for testing purposes.

I attempt to destroy my own products, so that you dont. Adding this kind of power to ones truck is a serious choice with many side effects that goes along with the high hp.

Lawrence is obviously capable of making serious hp, as he has been on the leading edge with his injector development.
However he is obvioulsy trying to take responsiblilty by ensuring that guys buying these super mental injectors are fully prepared for the possible concequences of that much hp and the install shops are qualified to help them choose.

It is far easier to just sell than say no.

Dealers, including myself wont sell this product to guys not set up for it. While the customer obviously has the right to choose to install what ever he wants in his truck, as a dealer i use my best judgement on whether or not to sell for a particular application.

This is one of the most difficult decisions i face every day, sell what is best for the customer's application , or sell him nothing at all. While i realize most of the guys will buy the product somewhere else, it is the risk we choose to take as responsible vendors.

As i mentioned above i am not speaking for Diesel Dynamics but I certainly understand their point of view.

Thanks Bill. My first impression was WHY ? Then I thought about it for a while and have to agree, it would be real easy for DD just to put them up for sale and "let the buyer beware". Says alot in my book that a company has more in mind than making a quick buck. DD is obviously in it for the long run. What I don't agree with is the bashing of other companies, like Bully Dog, who are trying to enter the market and provide some competition, but that's another story.

Forgot to add, received an e-mail from Nowel tonight, sounds like he's heading your way. Best of luck with the install and take good care of our little buddy #ad
