I just got my UFM upgraded to the "Competition Model" and have run into a small problem. If anyone has any ideas or has experienced this problem themselves please let me know how/if you resolved it... .

I have had DD's UFM on my truck for about 4 months now and decided to upgrade it to the "Competition" version. The original model ran fine on all settings. Now for the problem, once I hooked up the upgraded model the truck seems to surge or shudder around 1700 rpm when on level 5, sublevel 5. This does not happen under a hard load, only seems to happen when just driving the truck normally down the road (which is where the rpm's are when going around 50 mph:(. Changing to level 4 eliminates the problem. I have not tried a different sublevel yet (I am out on a trip right now, but will check that once home).

I spoke with DD and they said their truck did not do this and they ran theirs on 5X5 all the time. So they didn't really have an answer, they did recommend trying a different sublevel and see if the problem still existed.

I am not bashing DD, they have great service and parts. I am just trying to solve a problem, and I am not sure if it is a problem with my truck or a software glitch in the fueling module. Not being able to run on 5X5 kinda defeats the purpose of the upgrade for me. Any ideas/help is appreciated... .

Thanks,

Doug

Doug, a few weeks back I was a condition somewhat like yours(which turned out to be a bad MAP sensor). I just have DD's ez model. I called them and talked to one of the guys(Mark, I think, could be wrong) to see if the TTM could be causing this as the miss would go away if I unplugged the module. He said it shouldn't cause the miss and had nothing to do with the map sensor going bad. But, to be sure, he sent me a new module anyway and I returned the old one(almost a year old). See if they will just swap it out for you like they did for me. I originaly called them to see I could send my box back to Edge just to check it out to verify it was okay and Mark(?) said he would just send me a new one instead.

Sam,

I don't think it is the MAP sensor. I got home and tried sublevels 1-5 on step 5. It seems that all the sublevels have the surge/shudder, but it gets better with each decrease in sublevel. None of this happens on step 1-4 on any sublevel.

I have spoken with one other member who has had this problem, but his was with the original model not the Competition version. He is now running a FMS box... . I really like the UFM and plan on keeping it:D , I just need to fix this one issue:(.

I guess if nobody else has any ideas I will contact DD and see about exchanging it, maybe that will fix the problem .

I also have the DDUFM and upgraded to the comp, I just got it back and took a little trip with my family so I couldn't really test it. My original DDUFM would shutter in level 5 only from time to time. Keith at DD was pointing at the TURBO, my connections and other posibilities and of couse defending the UFM. This week I'm going to do more testing and will post my findings.

Devildog,

Thanks for your reply... . I will interested to see if the shudder still exists or better/worse. My original UFM ran like a champ:D! I only hope that I can get the shudder stopped. I am really suspecting the new programing on step 5 since it did not happen prior to the upgrade. My hunch is that when the program was updated some small bit of info got lost in the upload. I am betting that installing the program again would rectify the problem.

I will let you know what I do that fixes the problem. My guess is DD will make it right, they are a very reputable company.

They are a reputable company and they will stand behind their products, they will not throw parts at a problem they like to professionally solve each problem. I have always had good experience dealing with them and their products are excellent, these are reasons why my truck has a lot of their parts:D

I will post my DDUFM/comp ASAP.

Testing the Comp

I made a few runs with the DDUFM with comp chip I notice more power on the top end 5-5 setting:D and no shudder so far I'm hoping that the upgrade solved my problem, keep us posted of your findings. Good luck.
