I got my Bullydog CPC (their version of the van Aaken box) from the UPS man today. I installed it immediately then found that proverbial lonely country road and let 'er rip! The CPC with DD2s really makes my 2-wheelie Ram FLY!!! How about running from a dead stop to 100mph in 19 seconds flat? Not bad, considering it was 95 degrees outside and I left the A/C running
My truck stock would do it in 30 seconds and 24 with the DD2s with considerably cooler weather. The SOP meter says an easy 60hp gain!
The drivability is good, you cannot tell there is a box until you get on the throttle a bit, which I like. It shouldn't make it any more difficult to drive in slippery conditions. The old van Aaken I tried fueled instantly off idle, this newer ETH version does not. However if you punch it, it makes lots of smoke and responsive power immediately, so it seems more depended on throttle position instead of boost to start the added fueling.
Now the downside. I've discovered I must be at the absolute limit thermally of my stock turbo and exhaust with just the injectors. Add the CPC and I've gone well over the edge. I can hit 1300+ just like that (it takes a while to get past 1200 with just DD2s). After a run from 60-95, followed by a timed 0-100 blast, I was shocked to see my engine temp above 210F
(I do have a T-stat problem and I'm STILL waiting for my new one to arrive). I realize the combination of hot weather, A/C, hot box and injectors are going to heat things up, so I have to drive carefully when its in the 90s and above. Also, it smokes like a banshee off idle, I would say almost double the smoke as without it. But when the temps drop down in the 80s or lower that should help the smoke issue a lot. I am one of those guys who prefer not to fumigate too much.
When my bank account recoups, turbo and exhaust upgrades are next
