PDR40 and Auto Question

Come on, Mr. UPS man!!

Why did I ultimately decide on DD2s? Well, the recommendations of Rod Snaith were a big part of it. DD3s were what I thought I wanted, but I realized that I need something a little more streetable.

By going to the 2s, I have something that will let me have a fully streetable combo, no wire tapping, fully controllable smoke, and I can even milk a little life out of the poor stock clutch. Most of all, I can keep EGTs in check with my stock turbo.

This will be my ""phase 2" setup.

Phase 3 will begin soon. I have to get the other upgrades done that I want. Prepping for Phase 3 will include clutch and 4" exhaust. Phase 3 will be PMAX custom programed at 70%, EDM4s from Don M, and either twins or a PDR HX50 hybrid.

I would like to reach 500HP if I could, but my real goal is not HP, it's torque. I want to clear 1000 lb-ft!!!

For now, my phase 2 buildup with EZ and 2s should be a nice beginner combo for me, and keep my truck alive and happy for a while.

So DD2's aren't a waist of time?!?!?!

Didn't I read somewhere that 2's were a waist of time? Some one posted that I can't remember who. ? I have 2's and like them alot drive nice if driven somewhat smooth no smoke by them selfs but I will probably go with 3's someday maybe even soon for yet another hp fix. And then up to Super Mentals, ya never know where your going to end up sometimes.

Craig

DD2's made a great improvement on my truck. This was the first power bomb I did after the transmission and gauges, and I was impressed!

Robin

DD2's are a great injector but DD3's are very streetable

I ve had 275's 2's and 3's

save some cash and save some steps

Bob, when you ran the 275's and the 2's, if you stayed out of the go-pedal did you see any increase in MPG and what about smoke?

I am at 5500 elevation and have seen some pretty good smoke if I get into it going around a corner at low boost. What would I expect with the 2's?

I just read the other day that the 275's have smaller nozzle holes but 2 more holes than stock so better atomization and hopefully better MPG. How about the holes in the 2's?

I just bought a set of used (15k miles on them) DD2's. Can't wait to install them. This will be my first injector mod. Any clue how they will perform without a timing box?

I don't drive with the comp on most of the time, the dd2's are plenty of power not much smoke for daily driving for ME. They are very nice that way.

Craig

Cool, that's what I wanted to hear. I'm planning on installing them in a couple of weeks. I'm also looking for a used ez comp box, but I'm going to leave that off the truck until I do some transmission upgrades, if I can resist the temptation. :D

OK, Craig, you got me! I am busted!! Guilty as charged!! I was shooting off my mouth on 2s being a waste of time, and pushing 3s, then here I go buying 2s.

Like I said, I went with them because Rod recommended them. I wimped out. What can I say? I just didn't trust myself enough to overrule Rod's recommendation. That way i can blame him, instead, eh? I am such a coward:rolleyes:

The bottom line is that this "phase 2" build up is gonna have to last me a while until I can get some WAM scraped together. There's no doubt that building it right the first time saves $$. Thus, I may end up stopping the bombing with the EZ and 2s. I don't know if it is humanly possible to stop once you have the disease, but I will give it a strong effort if I have to.

Besides, I would kind of like to sit on the sidelines and watch what develops on the technology front WRT injectors. I think we are on the cusp of an EDM revolution, and price will be dropping soon, imho. I figure 350rwhp is enough to get me by for now, and impress the Phord and Shiv guys if necessary.

I guess I found the middle ground between slow bomb increments and going whole-hog in one step.

I suppose i lost all injector credibility, but we'll all get over it:{

Hohn, I have the DDIIs and my Edge EZ is only set on low. It runs like a scalded ape. My "In town" mileage fell alittle (only because I can't keep my foot out of it) but my freeway mileage is good. I drove straight through from Seattle,Wa. to my home, 1056 miles, and pulled 21mpg at 70 to 80 mph!!

Take your time on the injector install! Buy yourself a couple of the grid heater gaskets. You can reuse the valvecover gasket. Buy aldo 6 of the o-rings that go on the tube that fits between the injector and the line nut. VERY important is to work CLEAN,CLEAN,CLEAN. Steam off your engine and be very carefull not to get any crud in the injectors or lines.

Thanks, Mhead.

My engine is pretty clean-- only 10K on the truck. I think I can get away with just washing it down with some degreaser and a rag.

I agree with the cleanliness. I think of working on my truck more like I am a surgeon than a mechanic. Obviously, it's not quite as hard, but if you have that mindset towards keeping things clean and organized as you work, you will have a let fewer headaches.

Last time I pulled the grid heater unit out, I just used some RTV when I put it back together. I was careful to put in on very sparingly, since I didn't want a bunch of extra to squeeze out and hang into the intake tract.

Can I get away with the RTV again? Since I don't have a Cummins dealer near, I would have to go to the dealer and pay too much to get it.

Glad to hear the results with the DD2s. I think I will go back and edit my post on them being a waste of time compared to 3s... .

HOHN

Because you used RTV last time, the gaskets will probably separate easier this time. I always loosen things and then "TAP" them with a stick of wood or a rubber hammer and it breaks them loose with minimal harm to the gaskets. If you bugger the gaskets up and they are a fortune from the dealer, I have a couple at the house. Cummins if proud of them too. They were $5. 00 something each!

You can pick up some gasket material at your local parts store too and just make your own. I've done it...

FWIW, I've had mine off twice and I never put any type of sealer on it whatsoever. The gasket looked good and it doesn't leak at all.

Just to update. . I hold in my now-smelly hands the objects of desire themselves: the six little decadent slices of HP heaven delivered by an angel in a UPS truck. .

THEY ARE HERE!!

OK, so they're just injectors, and they were delivered by a dark brown man in a dark brown truck. I don't care!!

Now to get these suckers IN IN IN IN IN!!!

HOHN

**Tune in next week to see Justin get thrown in jail for abusing his newfound HP**

With your MALE hormones in a boil now... ... Take your time on the install. When I was replacing the new injector back in the head, I carefully and in stages tightened the injector plate and then the injector line. The reason, In My book, is so the connecting pipe (between the injector and the injector line) seats as "squarely" as possable. No internal leakage then.

You will deffinately get "WOOD":D after the first test drive. Expect smoke at low boost... . more if you have a box installed also. Have fun!!!

Thanks, mhead.

I put them in last Saturday, and they are perfect. I don't think there's anything wrong (no signs yet) but I am a little worried because it went a little TOO easily. I mean, I just followed the directions, worked carefully and deliberately, and put it all together. I have no weeping from the injector nuts.

I *am* keeping an eye on my oil level, and sniffing for diesel smell. I would hate to change out $90 worth of Redline because I was careless on the install.

So far, everything is perfect, and that's why I am worried. When I first installed the injectors, I made the mistake of tightening down the hold downs first. I went back and loosened them, and then inched them down alternating bewteen them and the injection line nuts.

So far so good. There but for the grace of God, bomb I... .
