I can't make up my mind... :D Money is not an issue. Can you great people help me decide on DD2's or DD3's. I don't want to hurt my fuel economy when driving normal on the street, but I want the most power possible when I need it. Idle quality is a little bit of an issue but not a major one and EGT's can be controlled with the right foot. I have and Edge comp and love it. Any help would be great. I only tow a 3,000 pound boat.

Jon T

If money is not an issue could you buy me a new turbo. :D

Just kidding. I would go with the DDII's for better overall driveability and Fuel mileage. JMHO

That is what I'm running with my Comp. and love it.

Go with the DDIII's for just plain ol POWER! Oo.

JToiano, I agree with Mactruck, go with the IIs. I went with those so I wouldn't smoke like a freighter in the summer and run EGTs high. I probably don't have to remind you it can get toasty in the Tri-Cities ;)

Vaughn

My mileage increased from 16. 0 MPG under all conditions to anywhere from 17. 5 - 19. 5 with my DD3's & Comp box. I can't speak about DD2's, never had them. With the Comp, you can easily adjust smoke via the sub menus.

My guideline:

If you tow medium to heavy and/or tow frequently, DD2's

Otherwise, DD3's.

Cheaper to start out at 3's rather than get 2's and then decide later you want more :D

Tom

Agree with Tom Golden

I have DDIII's and EZ. Live at sea lever(Seattle area) and smoke only when I want to:D or leave quick on a warm day. I like the extra power and when I trade the EZ for a Comp I can control the smoke.

TC

I have DD3's and a pair of edge boxes that egual a comp (Drag comp coming soon). When I tow my snowmachie tralier (2 sleds at 600ea and +1000 for tralier) with two sleds on it I have to leave the fuel box off and use only the EZ or I can see some high EGT's when getting after it. But then again I am usually just passing someone so what does that matter. Bottom line is you sound like a DD'3 kind of guy. I forgot to look but be sure to have boost/egt and fuel press gauges, transmission upgrades and at least a set of bigger banjo bolts because you are not messing around any more.

DD'3

I HAD THIS SAME QUESTION AND THE ANSWER CAME TO ME BY WAY OF A GOOD DEAL ON DD'3'S. I PULL A 32' 5TH WHEEL AND WAS WORRIED ABOUT EGT. AFTER PUTTING THEM IN I RUN MY PM3 ON LEVEL 1 OR 2 WHEN PULLING AND ADJUST WITH THE RIGHT FOOT. AROUND TOWN MT I TURN IT UP AND ENJOY. THEY DO SMOKE A BIT BUT WITH MY STACKS THAT'S OK. AS FAR AS FUEL MILAGE GOES IT HASN'T CHANGED. IT IDLES SMOOTH.

This is great, what about idle quality and fuel economy compared to stock? Only Tom said he got better MPG. Lets be honest:D can you drive your trucks normal and get the same or better fuel mileage on the freeway, or will I always have my foot in it?:D I'm almost sold on the DD3's. Thanks for all the help.

Jon T

Well Jon, it depends on the driver. I honestly don't drive any different now than when I was stock. I'm not an aggressive driver normally. I only use all the power when I really need to, or rarely, when I want to feel the rush :D so I drive the same as I always have, and since I did the DD3's and EZ at the same time, I can't speculate how much of my mileage increase was due to the injectors and how much due to the EZ.

I will also say, when I first got into the TDR, before I started BOMBing, I met and asked several members how all the added goodies affected their mileage, and they all said the same thing - the DD injectors and fueling bixes all are much better optomized than the stock injectors, so you almost always see at least some increase in MPG. I got these comments from such members as HVAC and Csutton7.

Tom

I dunno but danelle wants some II's and ditch the III's

she tows a lot. We have hit the issues while towing with III's plateau finally, no major problems But she is a perfectionist

I had made up my mind

But after reading all that I'm not sure any more. :(

I was going to stay with my 275's but now I think I might have to go with some DDIII's. :)

Does it ever end?:{ :{ :{

I know the answer to that one. ;) :p

Well it's time for a clutch now!:D It slips real bad on the highway with everything turned up. :D I have a pusher pump on the bench at work to install because the fuel pressure will go to Zero when I push on the go pedal. :D And the cloud of smoke is great. :--) There is only a slight puff with the Comp off and the idle is perfect. I'm glad I got the stage 3's. you can feel the difference but it isn't a large seat of the pants feeling and probably been disapointed with the 2's. Which clutch?? I am going to pull probably once only in september and not make a regular habit of it. Thanks again for all the help.

MPG V. Injectors

I went from stock to Bully Dog step 3's to step 5's, my mileage really has not shown any decrease from stock, when running with just the EZ and the injectors. I don't use the TST box long enough for it to affect the MPG.

I think you will be very happy with the 3's. I ran BD 3's up until the mid-summer, last year. The smoke issue wasn't too bad, even in the heat and humidity with the A/C on. Forget anything higher than stage 3 injectors when it's hot and humid. The 5's are absolute pigs with temps. soaring into the mid 90's and high humidity. I leave a wispy vapor trail where ever I go. I only have to deal with these temps. for 2 months, but there is no way I would have them in my truck if I lived where it is always hot.

Jon, congrats on the new purchase.

Clutch: for towing/street driving/drag racing -> South Bend!!!!!!

Peter will  if you talk about pulling with his clutch, although there are those who do so ocassionally. But there is no finer example of customer service and someone who truly will make you a 100% satisfied customer than Peter. There is a thread elsewhere I saw today where someone had his new SB clutch in his friends garage, and the garage caught fire. Peter responded to his post and said he'd send the guy a new clutch. Ya just ain't gonna beat that!

For extreme abuse (i. e. serious sled pulling) -> Mitchell's full pull clutch. Now, I saw you said you might pull once just to do it. If you were going to seriously pull all the time, this Mitchell clutch is the answer, period. end of argument. But, after having recently ridden in a truck that has this clutch in it, I would not think it very nice to have in a daily driver, or especially not for a race truck, if you were to get into that. It simply does not shift very quickly...

Once you get a new clutch, I can absolutely garuntee you, when you put the Comp on KILL and slam that go pedal to the floor on the freeway, you *will* feel the power. I have forgotten or maybe don't know what turbo you have, but believe me, with a Comp and DD3's, when you do a full on WOT run in high gear, it will be a very noticeable improvement over your old injectors.

Remember your mother telling you to be careful how you made faces, or it would freeze that way?? well, prepare for a serious frozen :D:D:D:D:D:D:D face!!!

I have to agree.

Go with South Bend Clutch.

You will not be dissapointed, a friend of mine had a CON FE 13 1. 25" conversion installed in his 5 speed, and it has put alot more power to the ground, and increased his launch speeds in my opinion.

Peter... ..... Your core flywheel is going out next week.

Jon,

I too have the same clutch problem. My clutch started slipping on my test drive. I've got DD2's and PE Comp drag. I was able to convince my finacee that I "needed" a new clutch.

I'm going to buy a Southbend 13" Con OFE clutch. This is a 13" clutch and flywheel and is supposed to be good up to 500 HP. I can't wait to get the clutch because I'm having to drive on 1x3 just to keep from slipping the clutch... .

When I upgraded my clutch I didn't have as many options as you do now. I'm using a McLeod Dual disk street and have no complaints. While I seriously doubt that I would have a problem with clutch concerns from the folks that built and tested my clutch before shipping, JVD, it' is quite evident from the vast majority of SBC users that Peter produces a great product and stands behind same. Enjoy whichever you choose, I can tell ya that there's nothing like putting it to the floor with the TST set on kill with a turbo that can handle the load and a good clutch, always brings a big :D to my face.
