I am trying to decide between DD2's and DD3's for my truck. For all of you guys running either of these injectors what do you think of yours? If you were doing it again would you change from the ones you bought to different ones? If so what would you get? How about egt's (especially with an hx35 turbo)? How about smoke, at what boost level does it go away?

Right now I am running an EZ, DTT tc and vb on the way, will be changing hy35 to hx35 turbo, 4" exhaust in the future. I don't do any towing now, and if I would it will only be a 3500 lb load. Also want truck to be reliable and driveable for everyday use.

Thanks for all your input.

Doug S.

I would go with DD2's all over again. The DD3's have another 25 hp, but also have higher egt's and require 4" exhaust.

If you speak to Lawrence at DD, he will tell you that the DD2's have the best spray pattern (actual egt temps lower than DD1's).

You will see an enormous difference with the trans work done. DTT is the best.

i have gone between 275's and 3's , the 3's are much better , but get real hot real fast with my PE on almost any level , i have a hot 3 . this is with an EZ , hx35 and a 4" exhaust . the power is sweet , but you can get in trouble real fast and if you get silly can break things real easy , may downgrade to 2's , but i doubt it #ad

The DD3's with the stock turbo HX-35 produced rapidly climbing EGT's by themselves. Couldn't even use the fueling box. With the HX-40 and 4" exhaust, the DD3's can be run WOT for over a minute without seeing >1300°F. Adding the fueling box (set at 63% maximum fueling) I can get a good 20-30 second burst before having to back off. I would get the SM injectors if I was doing it again (may do it anyway in the future #ad

YEEEEEHAAAA!!

I've got DD2s and would get them again. EGTs do not climb that fast when I get on it (stock turbo, stock straightpipe exhaust). One thing I noticed is at idle, EGTs drop quicker than the RVs I had, which may be due to a better fuel spray pattern. The highest I've gotten mine to is 1200F and that was running hard 0-110mph.

Smoke is slightly more than RVs but not by much, there is no smoke at all once boost builds. But I noticed when driving at 2000-3000ft elevation there is a little more smoke.

Fuel economy went up at least 1-1. 5 mpg highway and probably down at least . 5 mpg in town.

I love my DD2s and felt they were the best compromise on power, MPG and usability. To add power now I'll use a box, and have the option of turning it off should I travel in high elevations and run into potential EGT problems. That was a fear I had with going to DD3s, running over high passes and running high EGTs.

I have the DD2's and love them. Truck is an ETC with the HX35 turbo and straight pipe 3" exhaust... dynoed at 300hp,650tq. I can floor it (unloaded) up a 5% hill and EGT's might touch 900 deg,but usually 850-875 (preturbo). Cruising temp at 70-75mph is only 500-525.

Jetpilot... go for the gusto, you can never have enough horsepower.

Jetpilot,
I,ve got pretty much the setup you have... . Went with the II's and it makes plenty of power. . idle increased to 825 RPM's, accelerate's hard from 30-85, fuel mileage is the same... ... The only issue I have, is the smoking... With the LiL EZ on 1, it's acceptable, on 3, you can get MAJOR rude with black smoke #ad
,..... If you end up using a major fueling box, you'll see even more. . You shouldn't have an EGT problem, cuzz you don't tow, you didn't mention what gear you have, but the 4. 10's, spoolup quicker which will help keep EGT's and smoke down... . Nice setup with DTT pieceyparts #ad

Vaughn, are the DD2's too much for a stock clutch?

With my DD3s, DD TTPM (fueling in at 20 psi), modified ATS ex. man. , modified Banks 14 cm2 turbine housing, Banks 4" ex. , K&N air filter, and Air Bulldog induction hood..... according to my SPA pyrometer my peak temp. from 0-to AT LEAST 100 mph was 1179! Hoowah!

Change a thing? Are you serious? On the other hand, I may add the trick compressor Piers has for my turbo (not that I need it mind you #ad
)

DD2s #ad

All kidding aside, both are great injectors. I would shy away from DD3s if you live at high altitudes or tow extremely heavy loads without all the necessary support toys that go with the addition of DD3s (especially on ETHs).

Well, I went right to the DD 3's the first time. If I was doing it today (as opposed to last month when I put the 3's in), I would very seriously be considering DD's new Super Mental Ultimate package #ad
But then again, I have nothing to tow, and my truck is basically my giant hot rod sports car I always wanted, so I don't have the considerations many of you would have where towing is concerned.

But I would never go with anything smaller than the DD 3's at any rate. New South Bend clutch on the way, HX40, Hot PE, DD TTPM coming to a Cummins near me very soon... ... . #ad

JetPilot, decide what the truck is used for. There is a thing called too much injector. I personally like the DD2's and the EZ, I too have the DTT TC and VB, and tow up to 10,000+.
Anymore I feel would be too much. On a good pull, I can hit 1200 degrees. But this is also related to engine RPM. If you lug the motor under a load, the EGT's climb fast. If you keep the RPMs' above 1700, it appears to stay out of the red zone.
Best all around with the EZ, DD2's. They can smoke alot if you push them hard.
