An EZ Question

Atf +4

The DD2's went in this morning (thanks, MDW). I'm happy. :D My stock clutch isn't. :{ Guess I'll be calling Peter at South Bend Clutch for that CON O-FE after all.

South Bend Con OFE ordered this morning. Now, if I can just make this one trip with the 5th wheel with the stock clutch before the South Bend gets installed! At least the route is pretty flat terrain.

Rusty,

I'll loan you my DTT slush box, someone else can drive your stick, lol.

Like the DD2's?, interested how you think it pulls. I'll be doing your 5er wt in a year or two.

Drakes were shipped today, getting closer, thanks again.

Rusty, I want to go with the same set-up, just wondering how the temp's (EGT's) are doing with the HX35. Thanks.

So far, no problem. With the 4. 10's, I can't keep my foot in it for very long before I have to grab another gear. The most I've seen so far is 1050 degF pre-turbo when I backed out of it at around 85 MPH in 6th (narrow country road, oncoming traffic, etc. ) Boost has jumped from 30 PSIG to 33-34 PSIG. The real test will be when I hitch up the 5th wheel. I was seeing 1100 degF maximum pre-turbo EGT with the stock injectors and the mods in my signature - stock, I could hit 1300 degF. So far, EGT's don't look bad at all with the DD2's.

From what I can tell so far, these injectors are gonna be great for towing. With the stock injectors and EZ, power would really drop after 2700 RPM. Now, it pulls like mad all the way to 3200 - no drop off (that my SOP dyno can feel, anyway) at 2700 any more. Throttle response is RIGHT NOW - that's when the stock clutch is complaining. Torque comes on so quickly it's like hitting the stock clutch with a sledgehammer! I helped things out a little by moving the jumper on the EZ to position #2 - delaying the extra fueling until boost hits 10 PSIG.

I went ahead and ordered the South Bend Con OFE clutch yesterday morning. Since we have to take a trip with the 5th wheel (36', 13500 lbs) before the clutch gets installed and broken in, I'm probably gonna pull the EZ's data link cable to get some torque out of the engine for this trip - otherwise, I have a feeling the stock clutch would be toast! :(

Hi Rusty! Glad you got them in! I know you will like the combo. I feel the timing is a wee bit much with the setup, but it seems to be working quite well, and I know that a lot of other guys have had success with our setups.

The injector install is something that seems pretty daunting at first, but once you do it, you wonder what you were so afraid of:rolleyes:

I would recommend moving the jumper on your EZ to the tamest setting. You won't lose any power (just a "feeling" of power), and it's easier on the clutch. On the tamest setting, you'll have all the fuel you can burn, and be a little more driveable. ESPECIALLY the cruise control.

Do you always start in first gear when driving? I do, and it has kept my stock clutch alive thus far, and I have the tall axle (3. 55).

I am surprised that you can hit 34psi! Most I have ever hit was 32psi, both at lower elevation and when towing 5K or so. One would think that the 4. 10s would make less boost than the 3. 55s, but this doesn't appear to be the case, does it?

Most boost I ever hit with JUST the EZ was 26 psi. I think because my truck is lighter that the engine doesn't have as much load, thus lower boost numbers.

Your EGT numbers are nice and low. I could hit 900 POST turbo when towing in the thin air. Now that cooler weather is here, I can't get it over 700° post if I try. This is at 6100' here in Cheyenne.

I think the EZ+2s combo is the best, most economical upgrade package. You end up not needing 4" exhaust, no need for an air system, sometimes no need for a new clutch, etc etc. You can keep the HX35, too, and still have manageable EGTs while keeping the turbo on the map (<35psi).

It's a great setup. Most people report better mileage, but I find myself using more pedal than I need, so I haven't noticed any gains nor losses.
