Just curious , you guy's running stage 3 injectors , how many miles are you going between oil changes? When I ran the 275 RV injectors I ran 5,000 miles between oil changes, and the oil still looked good , now at 3,000 miles the oil is fairly dark so thats when im changing it. What do you guys think?

I have dd3's,and change it at 3000-3400 miles every time,It is black as coal when I change it. My 12V never turned the oil dark in 3K miles,it was still hard to read on the stick at 3K miles,it was so clean. i run my truck hard,so changing the oil often is necessary IMO.

Synthetic oil worth it?

If your changing every 3-4 k?? will a bypass filter system get the soot out? or am I going to have to change the oil regulary to clean it up?

If you are going high performance, the lax maintenance schedule is out the door!

In my opinion, change your oil every 3500 miles with the DD3's.

I dont buy the whole oil bypass setup thing! (I know I'll get flack for that comment).

If you really want to know what condition your oil is in, spend somewhere in the neighborhood of 30 bucks and get an oil analysis done. That will tell you if you can extend the oil change interval and also give you peace of mind. I've been running my oil up to 9000 miles, with a filter change every 5000 miles. My oil analysis numbers are consistently at or below universal averages for wear metals and Blackstone keeps suggesting that I should try to run the oil longer. Synthetic is just too expensive to be changing every 3-4 thousand miles.

For the first 10k miles of my 01' i used conventional Rotella 15W-40 oil and the stock stratapore filter and changed them every 3k miles and the oil was visibly BLACK and you could not see through it.

At 11k i added the Amsoil dual bypass and changed my oil. 3k miles later the oil still looked new, at 5k it was still transparent.

If you "Dont buy the whole bypass thing" just try it. You have nothing to lose. My oil samples come back after 10k saying the oil is fine and there is no need to change it. I went to synthetic at 20k and after 10k miles, the oil is STILL transparent.

Bypass systems work, even Cummins agrees. Does ANYBODY on here have information that shows otherwise?

I just changed my oil at 5300 miles and sent the oil sample off to Blackstone. The Anaylsis should be back when I get home in two weeks. This is the longest I have gone on the oil (Dello 400) and I really ment to change it at 4500, I just got too busy.

Thanks for all the replies , I guess it's a small price to pay for that level of peformance . I'll pay the price , to me its well worth it:D

BTW i've run the Delo 400 from day one , and trying the Mobil delvac for the first time .

I have had my DD3's in since 12K miles. Used Delo 400 15W-40 from mile 1 - 32K miles, changing every 4000. Have been doing oil analysis from Blackstone Labs since mile 1. I changed to Amsoil HDD&M 15w-40 at 32K miles, am now about to turn 47K miles. Every oil analysis has been fantastic, with both oils. So like John Berger said, oil analysis is a good idea, if peace of mind is really that important.

These are purely my own experiences, and yours may vary.
