Engine/Transmission (1994 - 1998) Could it be the PCM?

I was looking at the dyno charts on the DD website and noticed that the DDIIs make more mid-range power and torque than DDIIIs.

I'm trying to decide on which ones to get... I rarely rev my motor over 2600 RPM, so I'm thinking DDIIs would be better for me.

Any input would be greatly appreciated. Thanks

Hope you have transmission mods or clutch upgrades, stock anything isn't going to hold that much power. If you're not going to push hard get the 2's. A lot less heat and driveabilty with not that big loss of power if you don't drive hard.

My 2 cents,

Glenn

MGerzymisch,

Remember those Dyno runs are with no fueling box before the Supermental stage.

If you add an Edge EZ which you have, then your fueling curves will match the fueling box curves and not the stock fueling curve.

The 3's will outperform the 2's with the fueling box added.

I agree with chipstien, get the 3's.

II OR III

Would I need to upgrade my turbo and or exhaust to have the III's? Would the EGT's be to high with Comp and III's? My towing is once or twice a month - not much weight when I do tow.

Now how about mileage?

Is there a significant difference in mileage between the II's and III's? I realize there are a lot of variables to consider, but under identical conditions, will the III's show a considerable loss in mileage?

I am looking into II's. I have 275's and an EZ now, and I get great mileage. I will stay with what I have if mileage is gonna drop with the II's.

The only other thing that I am somewhat worried about is boost levels and my ETH. I have heard scary stories about popping head gaskets with these slightly bombed HO's.

Thanks,

Jim

The 2's will make less power across the entire powerband than the 3's. The reason that the 3's look lower on the bottom end in those dyno graphs is that the 2's were done on a stick shift truck, and the dyno run started at lower RPM's. The 3's were tested on an automatic and the runs start around 1900rpm due to trying to keep the truck in OD with the converter locked up.

The III's are a great injector, I tow regularly, no problems at all. Mgerzy and Jt, with your ETH you'll notice a huge difference in power with the III's(not radical, but very smooth power), as far as mileage, I never keep track of it around town (keep forgeting), but on the highway @ 80 mph I get 19. 5 ish, if I could drive slower (which I can't) say 73-74 mph, I'm sure it would get 21 or better. Overall, I saw an increase in mileage since stock form.

Why get II's, when you can get III's? :D

Darn you guys - I sure wish you would STOP this talk about upgraded injectors... I'm trying SOOOooo hard to stay with just the Comp... :p ;) :D

God help me if ever I get passed by a Ford or GM... #@$%! :-laf

Thanks for the info Keith. I bought the DD2's because I also thought it started earlier in the powerband. Oh well, I'll just get supermentals next time. :D -Ray-

With the help of all the wonderful CT guys this past Sat,

I just added DDIII's to an otherwise bones stock 02 in terms of power adders, and the diff even w/only 20 #'s and the ECM defueling is just INCREDIBLE. Get the 3's FOR SURE. Power is so smooth and seamless and serious top end pull on hwy, the truck feels so strong. Throttle response picked up a TON too. HTH's
