Own a 98. 5 24V Cummins.

Have just changed out fuel filter and doesn't want to prime.

I have opened test test port on the fuel cannister lid and have bumped the starter several times. Can hear the lift pump running when I do this. Finally tried opening the banjo bolt on the input

side of the lid... no fuel coming out when I bump the starter.

Is it safe to assume my lift pump is a goner?

Thanks,

Fred

I Agree w/ Larry....

That is exactly what mine did as well. The first time I changed the filter, it took about twenty "bumps" to finally get it started. I should have measured it then. It would have saved me the towing cost when I changed the filter the second time. ;)

Thanks guys,

Only have 80K on truck so will call a dealer or two in the A. M.

Hope they don't give me too much grief.

And all this time I've been worried about losing 5th gear!

Final on lift pump --

Dealer replaced @ no charge. They squeezed me in even though they were extremely busy. Kudos to Todd (service manager) and Timberline Dodge... good guys!:)
