Engine/Transmission (1998.5 - 2002) Dead @ Sonic

Gentlemen, I had a little problem yesterday on the way home from work the engine would surge at idle and act like it was going to die, also had little less power. Later last night I shut it off at sonic and it would not start. Had friend pull start and limped back home, Is this a load of bad fuel that clogged my filter or the injection pump going out? Fuel pressure was normal 14psi @ idle and 10-12 psi @ 70 mph. Thanks.

Are you measuring the fuel pressure before the filter?

The spot where the pressure is measured is on top of the filter housing, meaning this is pre filter.

I don't know how a clogged filter would reveal itself if the pressure is measured pre-filter.



A clogged filter would show up as a pressure difference between pre & post filter measurements and probably as a less-than-normal pressure post-filter.

Sounds very similar to mine when the VP44 was dying.

The top of the filter has two ports, one pre filter and one post filter, you could switch ports and verify pressure. I would change the filter first with any fuel system problems.
