The Big Race!!!!

Are all Diesel Fuels the Same?

I was driving down I-25 to Pueblo and when I went to downshift, the RPMs went to 3500 when I hit the clutch. I immediately shut the key off and coasted to the shoulder of the off ramp. When I attempted to restart, RPM's went through the roof again... linkage is working normally and all external hardware looks fine. Here comes the big problem, the truck is on the side of the highway with my trailer attached (43' Gooseneck 3 car hauler). Is there anyone on the Colorado Front Range with a gooseneck equipped dually that would be willing to help me out by hauling the trailer back to Co Springs?

BTW, the pump was rebuilt by a Bosch rebuilder in Denver exactly two months ago this week.

Thanks to all those who called with advice, this is such a great group!

I would give you a 19 out of 20 chance that your truck has a case of sticking plungers. The P7100 has had this on the Dodge trucks since the start. It seems to happen almost without reason. Sometimes it merely manifests itself as a stall after shifting or stopping at a light. Sometimes it happens that someone's pulling a hill and they get to the top, let up, but things keep churning right along. Sometimes it just acts like a loss of power after shifting on a long grade.

It is more likely if you have thin fuel, or it's very hot, or you have been working at WOT for a few miles, but none of those things are necessary.

YOu're going to be going back to the shop that worked on your pump and see how good thier warranty service is. Sorry, that's the best guess I can make.

It's a 1st gen, would it have the same problem?

I don't have a P7100, it's a VE rotary... I think something inside the thing went T. U. because it bypasses the governor and runs right past redline... It used to stop at 2800, but with this problem, it runs into the red so I shut it down.

The Saga Continues

Well, there's good news and bad news. The good news is that truck and trailer are home. The bad news is that the Getrash decided that it wanted to die. The rear main bearing on the transmission siezed and caught on fire.

So now I'm in need of a transmission in addition to the repair on the injection pump. *sigh*

Many thanks go out to Fuzz and Sean for assisting with the recovery operation.
