1st thread started, so bare with me please. OK, shut truck down with alarm/turbo cool down and was running late for work. Jammed in and changed, went and worked a 10 hour day, and when ready to go home, alarm did not work. Thought, hmmm, remote battery dead  . Wrong, like a bonehead  in my hurry left the lights on all day. OK, tow truck shows up to slow charge for awhile, and when key turned on, no fass pump pumping, and no odo registering. Thought maybe not enough juice for pump to work,(6 month old Red top Optimas). Strange thing, asd relay vibrating and making clicking noise. Tow truck driver puts on 2nd battery one of those portable jumper units, only problem was he put red lead on negative side, and black on positive side #@$%! , then quickly relizes it was backward, changed it, then said unit had safety system built in to pervent such problems. OK, still no power and odo not registering, no fass pump pumping. Took batteries and had slow charge all day today, and batteries checked out good. Put back in, samething, nothing. Looked @ fuses, and realized 50 amp batt. fuse blown. Replaced, now asd relay again clicking, and no power @ odo, and no fass pump pumping. Will get new relay asap. Please help and enlighten me as what could have happened, and what is the function of asd relay. Sorry for the long post, just wanted to explain all that took place. Thanks in advance.

The ASD relay (automatic shut down) sends line voltage to the

EVR in the PCM. The EVR gets input from the asd relay and the battery temp senosor and decides the output (volts) of the alternator.

In the 12 valve's that is all the asd relay does in the 24 valves it mite do other things. The engine speed sensor(crank speed sensor) on the 12 valves turns on the asd relay, I would imagine that the crank speed sensor(crank position sensor) on the 24 valves would do the same thing.

Thanks Bill. I have found most every large fuse blown, got the truck home tonight, but still no power to radio, stock instruments, ie: tach, speedo fuel gauge, etc. Turned on driving lights, and blew that fuse, blew the brakelamp fuse. Not sure what to do. Replaced the asd, and looks like I might have to replace a lot of the fuses in the power dist. center, not a happy camper, might call AAA, and explain to them the bonehead they sent out created electrical havoc with my truck. Thanks again

One thing that is VERY important when you do any jump starting is to make sure ALL electrical items are shutdown before hooking up cables! Failure to shut them down will fry them if the fuse doesnt blow first. This wont be the case everytime but it appears so in yours. Keep changing fuses and Im sure you will be just fine. I would call AAA and inform them that the tow truck driver jumped you and damaged your electrical system so even if you get everything fixed by fuses for now but have trouble again shortly that they will cover you. Hope this helps, Chris

Not to defend the Tow Truck guy, but the portable jump units do have a built-in saftey for exactly that reason. I use mine almost daily for years and have reversed them on occasion with no ill effects... ..... my . 02... ... .

By reading the first post it sounds as if he had a set of cables run from the truck before he added the second jump pack.

Seems like you have one heck of a power surge.

What type of volts and amps are you putting out?

If there wasn't a fire works show when the tow truck driver hooked up the leads wrong nothing got hurt.

Thanks guys, this is why I came to TDR. Dieselputer, the tt driver did say that regarding the safety, & CSnyder, your right, he hooked up a trickle for about 20 min. before adding the port. unit. I gotta work again Sat. ( Natural gas comp. ), but my plan is to examine every fuse in the power dist. box. I am hoping I can find all the trolls hiding out, and didnt fry anything major. Thanks again for all your insight.

Well, after spending over a hundred bucks for fuses and relays, almost everything is back to normal. I still have no sound system, changed the fuse, checked the amp fuse, but no go. Will have to see if I can get it diagnosed at an electrical/stereo shop. Will make sure this never happens again, and still talking to AAA about this problem.
