2006 3500 5. 9 4x4 99,000mi

While driveing total loss of power.

After pushing off the road would not start only crank.

What shood I look at or do first?

Check for any codes??? If any troubleshoot from there. Also verify the lift pump is getting fuel to the CP3.

I changed the fuel filter, old one looked fine. Installed new filter cranked for 20sec no start, waited 5 min cranked agin for 20sec no start, pulled fuel filter and it was full.

I had this happen too. Figured electrical/computer as opposed to fuel. Once I took the pressure sensor clip off of the fuel rail, inspected, and reinstalled, the darn thing started fine and I got home. Replaced the sensor and no further problems.

Auto Wurks found it to be a problem w/ engine controller. They sent me to the dealer and is being replaced under 5/100 emissions warranty.

What was the measurement on the injector fuel return test? Should be around 80/100ml (30 seconds@idle). Did the dealer even perform this test?

I went through a similar experience, fuel return test delivered upwards of 240ml, retorqued all my cross tubes and the fuel return test was right at 100ml... . has run like a champ since.

Dealer still dose not know what is wrong? "need to put a diesel mechanic on it" I was told?

Original problem was the engine controller did not recognize the key, it died and would not start. the codes were for the key problem, the keys would unlock the doors but would not start.

Well the dealer replaced the fuel pump module in the tank (under warranty) Still dose not run.

Now they ordered the injector pump (under warranty)

I am hoping & praying for the best!

Another quality shop. At least it is on their dime. Throwing parts at it instead of diagnosing... good job... morons.

well sounds like he`ll have a new truck by the end of this! ha

sorry for the humor, good luck wmarosits

J. J. at the risk of asking a stupid question... ... . what does retorquing cross tubes have to do with less fuel return? If cross tubes were loose/leaking would the fuel not be leaking under the valve cover? Am I missing something, on the common rail setup?

Thanks

I got the truck back, ECM, Fuel Pump & Injector Pump replaced under warranty.

Had to pay 1 hr labor to repair wiring to intake grid heater.

I have to go back to the dealer 1st thing in the morning they forgot to connect the fuel fill & vent hose to top of tank (you dont want to know how I found out and how much fuel was on the ground)
