I have a 2001 2500 HO six speed that has suddenly lost power and blowing black smoke out the exhaust. Have 73 K miles. Cannot get over 30MPH. Have stock vehicle except for exhaust brake. Any suggestions. Filled up with Diesel this am and have gone about 60 miles since. No water in fuel light, etc. HELP!!!!!

OMitch... ..... Sorry to hear about your problem. I see your stock, and no gauges. I am not near as knowledgeable as others but I am going to take a stab at it. It sounds like you have lost boost pressure. Have you checked all your clamps and boots? I know with my truck at take off i will blow some blcak smoke until my boost comes up.

When you state "under load" you mean pulling something or just stepping on the gas? Do the RPM's come up to a certain point then die off? If so, what RPM? Like I said I am not expert, but it almost sounds like two different problems. RPM's falling off and just getting some diesel sounds like bad fuel, clogged fuel filter, lift pump gone...
