I just picked up my truck and I want to know how to safely remove the dealer's name badge. It is a plastic badge affixed with what appears to be double-stick foam tape.

I want to take it off without harming the paint or clearcoat and I want to install one of these in its place.

I have used goo-gone, availabe from Home Depot, to remove stickers and stuff around the house with good results.

i made sure my dealer put on no other badges than licence plate frames on my truck, and it's only on the rear. i will keep that there until i get a better licence plate frame [like a TDR one :-laf]

I always tell them, no stickers or other advertisements. I take some cards from the salesman to give out. I don't know if it works on the badges, but a heat gun is good to take the vinyl tape off the tailgate.

I pried mine off with my bare hands...

I hate those damned things. I also used Goo-gone to get rid of the adhesive.

Some dealers are using a vinyl decal instead of the plastic badges, those require very *gentle* heat. A hair dryer on low and a soft plastic scraper will work; Goo-gone will take care of the clean up.

There is a dealer here in MN that uses the vinyl decals, not only do they place one on the tailgate but TWO on the hood--one on each side just in front of the mirrors!

I'd kill them.

When my son bought a Dakota in 2000, he asked that they not put the vinyl on and they did anyway. I was with him when he went to pick it up and they told him it could not be removed, I stepped in and told them to order him another truck. Guess what?

On a new truck, the adhesive should be new enough that you can just peel the dealer ad off with your hands or fingernail depending on type. Mine was a decal kind of thing. Just scrapped it with my thumbnail. Haven't tackled the de-emblem job yet.
