I am looking for a reputable dealer in SW Ohio (Cincinnati/Dayton) or N Kentucky that has a qualified Cummins diesel mechanic. My front main seal is leaking on my '06 5. 9 3500 Megacab, but I want to know "why" instead of just replace the part and wait till warranty runs out. Does anyone know of a good dealer to go to for this?

Thanks,

Jeff Alford

I don't know of one around here, but honestly I wouldn't trust hardly anyone to correctly diagnose why a leak developed. I'm sure they might have some guesses.

I would suggest your best bet might be Cummins Bridgeway down in West Chester. But be careful, I've had them screw up pretty bad in the past.

Well research didn't pay off. The truck is still under warranty, so I needed to find a Chrysler or Dodge dealer. Everyone I talked to only had negative things to say, so I found a dealer in Cincinnati (Jake Sweeney Chrysler) that had two Certified Diesel Mechanics, that no one had any bad experience with. Told them what the problem was, they checked and said warranty would cover it. They had to order the parts after verifying the cause, so it took 6 days. I picked the truck up last night, and drove it home.

Unfortunately, it is leaking worse now than when I took it in. It is leaving a trail of spots in the snow just driving into the driveway. Left a big puddle where I parked it last night. Oh well, back to the dealer research.

Cummins cant work on it under warranty, unless Dodge sends it there. So I am stuck with the dealers unless I pay for it.

Follow up on dealer. Jake Sweeney did get it right the second time. I had a long conversation with the service manager, and he made double sure it was fixed right. The problem turned out to be the front main seal the first time, then the timing cover gasket the second time. I suspect that the mechanic loosened the gasket when he removed the front cover to get the main seal out, and it broke a section out. According to the service manager, the replacement gasket was a new design with a revised part, had a wider thicker section exactly where the damage was.

Bottom line, they did fix it, and it isn't leaking now. They also made an effort to clean up the mess under the hood, as it had sprayed the engine and firewall with oil.
