well got truck back today after new stock clutch install from the dealer, well they replaced the clutch, pressure plate, flywheel, pilot bearing. well now i have more in cab noise and a rattle while at a sustained speed. shifts much smoother but has alot of new noises. im leaning towards the throw out bearing because no noise with clutch depressed.

im so mad i should of done it my darn self like everything else... . but i figured it was under warranty why not, guess that was my mistake. so please anyone with any ideas on what these new noises are caused by please let me know

thanks

Robert.

was not replaced not sure why. probably to save a buck or 2 under warranty. i thought the same thing throw out bearing. just seeing if anyone else experienced this with a new clutch in there g56 trans

from now on all work done on this truck will be done by me

Noise

Robert,

Can you make the noise louder or quieter with load, gear selection, clutch pedal position, engine speed or anything that you can control while driving? Also how many miles on the truck?

Well When The Truck Is Cold, Just With The Clutch Out There Is A Noise That Sounds Like 2 Metal Objects Rubbing Together Very Lightly But When It Warms Up That Gets Quieter. But While Driving There Is A Rattling Noise That Goes Away When I Depress The Clutch All The Way. THERE IS ABOUT 12,700 ON THE TRUCK

On our trucks there should be enough pull back on the throw out bearing that it no longer touches the fingers on the diaphram and stops spinning...

The design of the common throw out bearing (release bearing) is such that if it touched the pressure plate all the time it would wear out before the clutch... to my knowledge the only bearings that run 100% of the time are those release bearings on pull type truck clutches. . and you should see the size of that guy... .

Not sure what kind of clutch was installed, but keep in mind, depending on your particular clutch disk, rattle may depend upon the stiffness of your clutch hub springs.

In fact, there is a TSB out there on the stock clutches at least for '03, and the replacement disk has softer hub springs to eliminate the rattle. There is some inherant rattle with NV5600 due to hamonics created by the diesel. Mostly at idle and in neutral.

The real test is to "blip" the throttle, and see if the rattle disappears. I have a dual disk SB 3850 with no hub springs, and that thing rattles like a mutha in neutral! I'm weird, so I like the rattle.

Just wanted to give you my 2 cents before you you pull everything out.

This Is One Of Those New G56 Trans With The Dual Mass Flywheels. This Thing Was As Quiet As A Mouse When I Brought It In If I Blip The Throtle I Hear A Clunk From The Trans.

Thank You For All Of Your Replys

Noise

Robert,

Why was the clutch replaced? And FYI our trucks do not have a clutch bearing return system, the release bearing is turning all of the time. The slave cylinder pushes on the fork and bearing 24/7.

well i did some digging of my own and found on tech connect that there is supposed to be a little orange rubber boot that covers the shift tower on the trans. well the tech left this piece off. this is a very good insulator because it hides all of the trans noises. after installing all was quiet like normal. thought that it was weird but it sounds fine now. so installed bddl again all is good. :D
