Anyone know of any cool dealer installed options?

I was talking to a friend the other day about his 2006 mega cab and he had a rear DVD player. He said it was a dealer only option.

Makes me wonder what is available for 4th generation trucks 13-18. Not necessarily looking for a rear DVD player, but just curious as to what people have come across in their travels.

My father has a 1999 Chevy Tahoe and he had a dealer installed Car phone installed in the car. I have never seen anything like that in my day. The truck had its own phone number and all. Was a $1300 option even in 1999...

I recently called up my local Ram Dealer but due to COVID-19, nobody was available to chat.

My 2006 Megacab had the rear DVD system and I can tell you that it is not a dealer installed option. It was usually a custom build option but they did pump a few "fully optioned" Laramie's out back then as well. It's a different headliner and they only way to get the headliner in or out without creasing it or mucking it up is through the front windshield opening sans glass. I think the things dealers install are like tonneau covers, mudflaps and floor mats ..... They call them "port installed" options.

Interesting... I wonder why they did away with it. Not that it matters to me and I understand everyone has a smart phone nowadays anyway, I still think that would be a cool thing.

There is a difference between dealer installer options and dealer installed accessories.

The 3rd gen 5.9 exhaust brake was a DIO, but I never saw a rear-DVD player listed so that’s likey just a dealer accessory.

I’m not aware of any true DIO’s on modern trucks. It’s been a long time since I’ve even heard that term.

That's the kind of stuff I mean. I always find it so interesting to see those unicorn vehicles with these really wild accessories that were installed the day they bought the vehicle.

It's probably because these things come with all the bells and whistles from the factory as-is.

Mine was offered as an accessory or dealer installed option. Also could be ordered from the factory with one.

I bought the accessory DVD kit that fit a Town & Country back when a bunch of dealers had lost franchises and were selling off excess parts on ebay. I then found the parts needed that made the install specific to the Mega Cab. You lay the front seats all the way down and drop the headliner down. It will not come out unless windshield removed as you say. I was able to reach everything and cut the hole with it laying on the seats. Scary though...

Here is the thread, pictures are gone. I don't if I have them on a flash drive or not. Will have to look...

And Good Luck with FCA having parts "in stock". I will NEVER deal with my selling dealer again over the ClusterF that was over 90 days getting my wish list ordered and installed on my truck. Their ignorance over hitch options and what was the factory installed options for the hitch on the truck was exceptional over other RAM dealers. Their service department is ok, but it's like winning big on the lottery if they answer the damn phone. Sales or service. Forget leaving em a message as they can't be bothered to hire anyone to return calls.

One dealer knew what they were talking about but had done a bad job of installing or billing for accessories not yet installed: Door edge guards that looked like $### installed on on one door only, and no bedliner but a "no choice" line item for it in excess of the cost of the factory sticker bedliner option price. "No Thank you: you keep the truck with the unwanted and overpriced clear bedliner."

I get service at another dealer and my next truck, if I buy another new one someday, may be ordered/sold through them. Because they had a new untrained sales moron turned loose that didn't know trucks they lost their first chance the last time.

You need to make sure the deal has the parts ordered before you sign on the dotted line, in writing, or one will wait till the "deal is funded" before the dealer even orders the parts. In case the deal unwinds the dealer doesn't want surplus accessories. Funded means bank has purchased your loan and sent the money to the dealer: taking 30+ days.

I refused delivery nearly 2 weeks till my dealer "borrowed" running boards from another pickup. It's not my truck or bill until I drive it off the lot. 90+ days later the correct wheel to wheel ones finally made it undamaged to the dealer.

I had a subwoofer installed. The instructions are screwed up having the input to the amp wires backwards. (Sounds bad and out of phase.) An easy fix I did myself. Why did I have the dealer do it at a higher cost? Because if it has or causes trouble the MOPAR Warranty covers "Dealer Installed Accessories".

I don't have the dealer install parts/accessories that I can do myself AND the parts department always gives me a discount on parts/accessories I purchase from them. Heck, my dealer beat Ebay price on tires, and Ebay price didn't include installation. I've purchased 4 new trucks and 1 new Jeep from this dealer AND if I every buy another one vehicle, it will be from them. They Rock!
