Well, I have to tell you about a dodge dealer here.
I also own a 2001 durango slt. I took it to the dealer cause the transmission started acting up at 26,000 miles. (it would stay stuck in 2nd gear)
I also told him, when he gets it fixed, to take it for a freeway drive. I told him to just cruise along at 55-60 and listen.
(The rear end has been singing for a while only when between light throttle and no throttle)
They called me and said the transmission needed a new governer and related parts, and that yes they did "duplicate" my problem with the singing rear end. They were putting a new ring and pinion in it as the ring gear was shot. They also said the "c" clip was worn really bad as well, and had one on order.
They coulda just jacked up around until the warranty was up.
Instead, they fixed the transmission, and the rear end.
