Desktop 'puter recommendations...?

Well, working for someone else has not gone well for me. I am a recent college grad, and am still living with mom and dad. I find this time to lend itself to best start something that can be "mine". I have recently bought and sold a few trucks, and it has worked out well for me. I like traveling, seeing other places, talking to people who enjoy trucks, farming, etc just as I do. I have been compelled to research becoming a dealer, as of date I have not found an immense amount of information on the topic that I deem useful. Therefore I am posting here. If you do not wish to post your responses feel free to send me a PM with your suggestions. I would be willing to call and talk if you believe that would be easier.

PS. I have found a 3-4 car wedge trailer, it is used, but is a dual tandem with oil-bath axels, What is your opinion of this, is this a good method, or should I start thinking of something different? I understand that once the business grows, there will come a point where I will have to pay someone to haul them for me, since I will need to be available at the lot.

My question is this: For those of you who have dealer’s licenses, what kind of hoops do you have to jump through?

Is it a good move it you want to do it part time?

Where do you find success with finding trucks, etc. to buy and sell for a profit?

Do you frequent the "Dealer" only auctions?

How is the best way to sell? If you sell on-line do you get away from having the free standing structure, zoning, etc like my state (Indiana) is requiring if I apply for a dealer’s license.

In the whole scheme of things, once I buy a trailer, and use my truck to haul the vehicles home, will I be better off than just hiring someone to do it for me?

In starting out how should one go about getting funds to buy trucks, set up a place of business, etc.

I am full of questions, these aren’t the end, but I am just looking for someone that is outside of my region (that I wont be competing with on a local level) for some advice, and direction in where to research. I am looking for any information that you are willing to give to me. THANK YOU

There is a dealer in Fort Wayne that sells only diesel 4x4 pickups. He expanded and moved to a larger facility, so I guess he is successful. They seem to move quite a few trucks as their lot always has new stuff on it. I think a niche like that could be a fun and successful business. The IN.gov website has info on it on dealer licensing requirements if you are interested.

I've retired from 30 years in the medium and heavy duty truck business. If you really want to get in the used truck business, get a sales job with a successful used light truck dealer in your area. Work for him for several years and learn all you can about the business, not only the selling and buying, but the financial too. Many of your questions you ask here will be answered when you learn how the used light duty truck business works.

Thank you. Yes, I have checked out the IN website. Hopefully I can learn some more through a friend who works for his dad at the family dealership.
