odometer

Hold the odometer reset button while turning key to on position,

this will preform cluster check. Should give code after check is done.

Have heard of a few instrument panel replacements being performed.

That service provider is probably just as clueless when it comes to lift pumps too. Just for fun ask them if they've ever heard of a lift pump going out on a 24v. They might call it the "fuel transfer pump". Then ask them about the Killer Dowel Pin.

You might decide to never return.

If it does in deed turn out to be the cluster in which I suspect then the dealer will have to sync it (NEW) with the current data on the ECM (Mileage) or when you go for futur warrantee work or even to sell or trade the truck in you may face some serious issues.

I think the PCM always sends the latest elapsed miles data to the cluster via the CCD bus. IIRC, the only thing the cluster stores is the trip mileage, which will get lost if the batteries are disconneted.

As to the speedo problem, you might have to connect a scope to the speed sensor, or to the output of the CAB, to ensure that the screwy speedo is not simply bad data being fed to the PCM.

Fest, his ODOMETER is whats jumping not the SPEDOMETER.

It jumps by 10,000 every cycle (Or other) of the key. He must have 900,000 miles on it by now. Yeah good point , However i thought the cluster stored mileage?
