having problems with my dodge dealer, they said my lift pump was fine . I said putting out 6 psi at idle, its not fine.

I need specs or tec info from dodge to show them. thanks mike

If they're that hard headed, then they won't believe what we say on the internet. You'll have to show them yourself what the idle minimum is by looking in their shop repair manual. It's about a 10psi minimum.

I believe it states in the manual that anything less than 8 pai at idle and the pump needs to be replaced. Ask them to show you the numbers in the service manual.

task125,

What type of gauge is the dealer using? Look at this thread about lift pump pressure and how one dealer used a 100 psi gauge to check fuel pressure:eek:

My 2000 FSM states, minimum pressure: 10 psi pre-filter at idle and a maximum differential pressure (post/pre filter) of 5 psi.

Good Luck;)

Do it yourself

Task, why not just order the latest and greatest Carter from Cummins and put it in yourself. At most it will require a few hours of your time and the job will be done right. I'd relocate the pump on the frame, back near the tank and call it a done deal. 6 psi's at idle has to equal 0 to vacuum at WOT, it's only a matter of time before your injection pump says enough. Just my $0. 02 but dealing with the service dept. and depending on them for help in this matter isn't worth your time and frustration. I don't have the latest part number for the Carter from Cummins on hand as I don't use that pump anymore, but I'm sure someone here could hook you up.

thanks for the help guys,

I showed them what the numbers where. they were just reading the first numbers 5 to 7 psi while cranking, thats why they said it was good,as you read on which they did not ,it says 10 psi at idle min. 5 psi across fuel filter. 6 in/hg max vac in fuel line.

even then they still called dodge and dodge said replace it.

so they ordered the part.

what the plan was, was to let them buy the part, and then when I go see scott at mass diesel on the 15th,he would move the new pump back where it should be. thanks again mike
